Vanessa Williams
It isn't easy playing Ugly Betty's scheming, nasty Wilhelmina Slater — especially at the beginning of Season 4, when she's lost her man, her baby and her job. But Vanessa Williams is glad that Willy doesn't always get her way, as it helps explain why she's so guarded. Williams tells us how Willy will deal with her setbacks, why the arrival of her daughter, Nico (America's Next Top Model's Yaya DaCosta), will distract her and what Willy and Betty have in common.

Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty
What's up with Willi? Ever since she became a new mom, she hasn't really been herself — falling asleep in the office, passing up a hot date with a pectacular "manny." Sure, motherhood is difficult, but this is powerhouse editrix Wilhemina Slater; surely she can handle a diaper or two! As Ugly Betty returns from its spring hiatus Thursday (8 pm/ET, ABC) Vanessa Williams tells TVGuide.com about the changes in store for Willi as she questions the parentage of her surrogate son, mourns her lost love with Connor and recommits to her sinister plans for publishing-world domination. Plus, Williams the musician has a new album!

Vanessa Williams and her son Devin
Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams is on a mission this holiday season pushing for parents and teens to sit down and discuss driving safety.
The mother of four vividly recalled her school days during the '70s when a drunken driving death left everyone shocked. "One of the kids from school was killed in a drinking and driving accident. She was a passenger and I knew the driver ...

Ugly Betty
Vanessa Williams' cut-throat, no nonsense attitude as Wilhelmina Slater put her at the top of Mode's food chain, but lately, the Ugly Betty star's fierceness is nowhere to be found now that she's in loooove. TVGuide.com caught up with Williams at an Allstate Parent-Teen Driving Contract event to get the scoop what she thinks about her character getting a bit soft now that the new CFO of Meade Publications, Connor Owens (Grant Bowler), has caught her fancy.
So, when will we see Willy's ruthless side back in full force? "Depends on how things go with Connor," says Williams. "Right now she's in love and feeling good. But we just had a read through [Monday] and she's ...

Daniel and Claire were able to see a sensitive, loving father and husband tonight in Bradford Meade. Even though Daniel couldn't say those three big words, his father in a flash of insight into the son who cares so deeply about family perceived that that was what he was thinking. Too bad Daniel didn't hear him say that he loved him. And I'm so glad Claire and Bradford had a quiet tender moment to reflect on their 35-year marriage and love. But these poignant moments made his passing all the more jarring, as evidenced by Claire silently being transported to Rikers and Daniel, Alex (and Betty) staring off blankly in his former hospital room.At least Bradford discovered Willie's affair before agreeing to the bedside matrimony although I'd have been tempted to be married by the online-ordained (Rev.?) St. James, with marital melody emanating from his cell phone. And thankfully we didn't have to wait very long for Daniel to discover the reason of Betty's "betrayal." ...

Episode Recap: "Family Affair"It appears that in addition to Alexis not remembering her new body (and getting to know it by here's a PG description giving herself breast exams, then a hilarious thumbs-up to Daniel), she also doesn't remember the last two years, which include, let's see, Fey's death, her mother being jailed for murder, her father's affair with Fey being revealed, her father divorcing her mother and getting engaged to Wilhelmina, her heated competition with Daniel over "Mode," Daniel's drug habit, etc. Bradford decided against telling Alexis that he'd disowned her over the sex change or that he'd divorced her mother, let alone that he was planning to marry Wilhelmina. I think the new warm and innocent Alexis is rather creepy; she seems to have lost the assertiveness and spunk she used to have. But we'll see how long that lasts.Back at "Mode," Amanda's discovery that Fey was her mother has gone from affecting her assets to (she had hoped) her monetary ass...

OK, first off, how freakin hilarious was The Bachelor Monday night? Holy human desperation, I loved it! And Hillary from my hometown made the first cut. Represent, Philly ho!Now that we have that out of the way, lets talk last weeks Emmys. Yes, the in-the-round stage was a hot circular mess and why so many statues went to TV-movies, Ill never know. Its not like any of the good Sci Fi Originals get nominated. Hello, Mansquito? So robbed. But Seacrest didnt totally suck, the opening Family Guy number was inspired and some of the winners were deserving. So if youre like me and think you suffered a stroke that made the word Gandolfini sound like Spader, or ya cant get your head around anyone from Torque ever winning anything, you might want to grab the champs on DVD. Turns out that the slights are, in fact, slight.Ugly Betty Much like Bettys Guadalajara poncho, you could spot America Ferreras Outstandin...

First things first, it's a little overdue but I have been wanting to say, "Congratulations, America wins!" (Makes for a great headline, eh?)America Ferrera, the 23-year-old lead actress who sets the tone for the ABC show Ugly Betty, went off and won herself an Emmy. Not that all the other prizes, most notably a second season, aren't gifts enough, but good for her. She does a nice job and better than that, after visiting the set twice, I can tell you that people without provocation sing her praises. I didn't get to meet her, unfortunately, because "of the demands on her schedule," but that's what people say. (But don't worry, you'll see a lot of America when you tune in to inFANity. I just didn't talk to her. I'm past it now.)I did, however, get to meet the others, many who are terribly underrated. Take, for example, Michael Urie, who plays Marc with a C. Sure his character is flamboyant and, you might say, expected. Next time you watch, though, pay attention to the details. The thea...

Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights
Question: Well, it's that time again — time to rejoice and weep about the Emmy nominations. I was actually pleasantly surprised this year. After last year's debacle (it can't be called anything else), I wasn't expecting much. But this year, probably 75 to 80 percent of my wish list was granted, which, when it comes to Emmy nominations, is pretty good. Nothing's perfect, of course: In particular, I was disappointed that Lost wasn't nominated for best drama (but Boston Legal was? What?) and that Matthew Fox and Elizabeth Mitchell weren't recognized for their riveting performances. As a new convert to Friday Night Lights, I was also disappointed (but hardly surprised) to see that the show received no nominations at all. But there was good news to balance things out: I was particularly thrilled to see nominations for Ugly Betty, and for America Ferrera and Vanessa L. Williams. I also think they got it right in nominating Sally Field, Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn for their great weekly ...
