Showtime's United States of Tara (Sundays, 10 pm/ET) is returning for a second season.
At least one of the show's writers had her fingers crossed for a Season 2 — and not just because she likes her job. "We really had a hard time putting everything we wanted to do [with the series] in 12 episodes — and that's not always the case!" Alexa Junge told TVGuide.com at the series' outset. "[Tara's] got a good story to tell, and we're just getting rolling here."

This reporter learned this — definitely not exclusively — when he saw a sneak peek at Falco's new half-hour Showtime dramedy (tentatively titled Nurse Jackie) on Friday. Falco plays a complicated nurse in an inner-city hospital. "What do you call a nurse with a back problem?" she asks in the preview. (Pause.) "Unemployed." As a result, the wisecracking, potty-mouthed, maybe-promiscuous Nurse Jackie also has a bit of a painkiller problem. It looks very promising.Ditto for Toni Collette, who plays a suburban mom who suffers from multiple-personality disorder on United States of Tara. Sex and the City alum John Corbett has signed on to star opposite Toni Collette in The United States of Tara, the Showtime comedy pilot featuring Little Miss Sunshine's mom as a woman battling multiple personality disorder. Corbett, says the Reporter, will play Tara's husband, Max, "a ruggedly handsome contractor who... tries to read as much as he can about his wife's condition." In the meantime, I reckon, he gets the thrill of having three-ways, minus the usual complications.

Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Little Miss Sunshine) has landed the roles of a lifetime in The United States of Tara, a Showtime pilot produced by Steven Spielberg and centered on a wife and mom with multiple-personality syndrome. Tara's alters include a male biker, a slutty teen and a Martha Stewart-like homemaker. Championing the casting, Showtime prez Robert Greenblatt tells the Reporter, "When [you need] an actress to not only play one complex character, but in this case several, the road begins and ends with Toni Collette. [We] are thrilled to have one of the best young actresses of her generation come aboard this project."
