VIDEO: Tom Selleck Reveals Why Jesse Stone Is on Thin Ice

Tom Selleck, Jesse Stone: Thin Ice

The police chief of Paradise, Mass. is back on duty Sunday, March 1, at 9 pm/ET, in Jesse Stone: Thin Ice, the fifth entry in CBS' TV-movie series based on the Robert B. Parker novels.

Tom Selleck stopped by the TVGuide.com offices to talk up his latest turn as the small-town cop, who this go-around finds his actions called into question by the Boston Police Department's Internal Affairs division.

Selleck also reveals why the series that made him famous, Magnum, P.I., has yet to get the reunion movie it deserves — and why it should not be lampooned on the big screen.

Watch and discuss this interview after the jump. read more

NBC at TCA: Meet the New Guy

The Singing Bee's Joey Fatone with The Honey Bees by Trae Patton/NBC Photo

He dropped names as diverse as Norman Lear, Uri Geller, Isaiah Washington and Jerry Seinfeld. He teased an all-celebrity version of The Apprentice (with a half-joking promise to extend an invitation to Rosie O’Donnell). In describing his vision for NBC's immediate and long-term future, the network’s boyish new co-chair Ben Silverman showed his affinity for both packaging and programming TV in an enthusiastic debut performance in front of the nation’s TV critics on Monday morning.Though he took the stage alongside the relatively subdued co-chair Marc Graboff, whose expertise is on the business side, this was Silverman’s show all the way, and he wasted no time in announcing some surprising programming deals and a few aggressive scheduling changes, including turning Monday into an all-fantasy night and shifting Friday Night Lights an hour earlier on Fridays, so it’s now cozily hammocked between the strong franchises of a relocated Deal or No Deal and Las Vegas,... read more

Tom Selleck by Chris Reardon/CBS

CBS has ordered a fifth installment of Tom Selleck's sleuthing series: Jesse Stone: Thin Ice, to start shooting in August in Nova Scotia. Hallmark Channel has grabbed rights to the previous four entries, with the first set to air Aug. 4.... USA Network has greenlit 11 episodes of To Love and Die, a series starring Shiri "Don't Call Me Amy From" Appleby as a gal with abandonment issues she believes can be resolved if she could track down the father (Tim Matheson) she never knew. Tom Selleck: No Mystery Why He's Bound for Vegas

Tom Selleck, Jesse Stone: Sea Change

Tom Selleck still has that compelling Magnum charm, even as the somewhat dissipated Jesse Stone. Tonight in Jesse Stone: Sea Change (9 pm/ET, on CBS), the fourth in a series of TV-movies based on Robert B. Parker's best-sellers, boredom leads small-town police chief Jesse to reopen an unsolved 1992 bank robbery and murder. Selleck spoke to us about the Jesse movies, as well as his past and future projects, including his move to Las Vegas. TV Guide: Jesse Stone. He drinks too much, he can't let go of his ex, he's overqualified for his job....Tom Selleck: I was very attracted to [Jesse] — he's so flawed, and yet a guy that I rooted for. I love playing him. New Wounded Knee Breaks Hearts Again

As history, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is essential, enlightening and disturbing, and has been since Dee Brown published his groundbreaking 1971 best-seller about the displacement and mistreatment of Native Americans in the late 19th century. As drama, HBO's movie (based on the book, airing Sunday, May 27, at 9 pm/ET) should only enhance and revive its reputation. Your heart is likely to break, bleed and cry out to the Sioux, trapped in one of history's bloodiest culture clashes, long before this movie reaches its devastating climax at the 1890 massacre of Wounded Knee Creek. It's a complex story, forcefully told (by screenwriter Daniel Giat) and directed (by Yves Simoneau) with a feel for the epic landscape of the Indians' hunting grounds and a sympathy for their diminished circumstances in reservations. Wounded Knee opens with the Little Big Horn battle of 1876 and traces the surge toward an American holocaust through multiple points of view. read more

Tom Selleck Joins Vegas... as James Caan Returns?

As buzzed about a month ago, NBC has signed Emmy winner Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.) to join the cast of NBC's Las Vegas this fall, playing "a charismatic, self-made billionaire who is surrounded by an air of mystery when he becomes the new owner of the Montecito Resort & Casino."In making the announcement, NBC also revealed that — as some form of baton-passing, I presume — James Caan will reprise his role of Ed Deline in the Season 5 premiere. It was announced earlier this year that Caan would be leaving Las Vegas after its fourth-season finale, but just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in. (Little Pacino/Godfather/Sonny Corleone reference for ya there.) read more

Is Selleck "All In" for Las Vegas Gig?

Flying in the face of conventional wisdom that his and Jason Lee's mustaches may not coexist on the same network, Tom Selleck is in talks to fill the void left by the exit of James Caan and join NBC's Las Vegas as the smart, powerful and fun-loving new owner of the Montecito, says the Hollywood Reporter. For Season 5, the show is also looking to find an actress to fill Nikki Cox's... shoes. Yes, her shoes. (Paging Haley Scarnato!) read more
