Tom Savini Fast Facts:

As a teen, he performed in a troupe that entertained movie-theater patrons during intermissions, and worked as a makeup artist and monster designer for a Pittsburgh TV station's Chiller Theater show.
Spent three years as a U.S. Army combat photographer during the Vietnam War.
Made his feature-film directorial debut with the 1990 remake of George A. Romero's horror classic Night of the Living Dead. He had previously worked with Romero on numeruos films as both a special-effects artist and actor.
Released two books on creating makeup effects: Grande Illusions: A Learn-By-Example Guide to the Art and Technique of Special Make-Up Effects from the Films of Tom Savini in 1983, and Grande Illusions: Book II, in 1994.
An instructor in the Special Make-Up Effects program at the Douglass Education Center in Monessen, PA.
Although best known as a special-effects master, he has also acted in a number of horror genre films, including his signature role as Sex Machine in Robert Rodriguez's campy 1996 flick From Dusk Til Dawn.
