Any news on Keri Russell ...

Question: Any news on Keri Russell lately?

Answer: I'm happy to report that our girl is back in New York where she belongs. I opened up the New York Post on Saturday and Page Six had a photo of her on the Washington Square Park set of her new movie August Rush, in which she's reteaming with her Mission: Impossible III costar Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Her character is apparently pregnant in the movie, as evidenced by her faux belly bump. At least it better be faux and not one of Tom Cruise's kinky Scientology experiments. Anyway, I see a field trip to Washington Square Park in my not-too-distant future. Anyone care to join?

CRUISE MAY SUE OVER "SPLIT"

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise and his pregnant fiancée, Katie Holmes, are refuting talk that they have split up. Characterizing a Life & Style story as "malicious fallacies" and "100 percent false," a rep for the duo says in a statement, "[They] are still moving forward with their wedding plans, as well as planning for the arrival of their child." The celeb weekly's woes may not end there, either. Cruise's lawyer tells Star — does no one have the number for Time or Newsweek? — "I will be sitting down with Tom to discuss... whether we bring a lawsuit. If it was up to me, I would sue." read more

Arrested Development Disclaimer:...

Arrested Development Disclaimer: It's hard enough to comment on four episodes of a show that requires multiple viewings to catch every subtle joke; then add in the factor that I'm in mourning here. We haven't heard anything about the potential Showtime deal in weeks. Meanwhile, Fox is stabbing me in the heart with all these "season" finale promos. So, yeah, I'm going to miss some stuff, but please write in and maybe I'll add them in by the end of the day. "Faking It": Honestly, the convoluted details of the case have taxed my short attention span, so I was relieved we'd be treated to the simplicity of the fake trial on "Judge Reinhold." The "My Name Is Judge" talking ads, spoofing on the ubiquitous Earl ads of last fall, marked the night read more

SMOKING NOT

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

A steamy love scene between Katie Holmes and Aaron Eckhart was mysteriously excised from the version of Thank You for Smoking that was screened at the Sundance Film Festival, fueling buzz that Tom Cruise may have wielded his considerable clout to snuff the footage of his prepregnancy fiancée. According to the New York Post, a studio rep says, "We don't know what happened, but we're looking into it," then insists the film "will absolutely be released with that scene" — or, just maybe, replaced with the volleyball scene from Top Gun. read more

I was wondering who was the ...

David Hartman, Good Morning America

Question: I was wondering who was the first female host of Good Morning America. I say Joan Lunden. Actually, I bet my sister a gift certificate that it was. Who's right? While you're at it, when did it first come on? Thank you, sir.Answer: You're quite welcome, ma'am, but you'll still be buying sis that certificate. There were two female cohosts paired off with original host David Hartman before Lunden. When Good Morning America launched in November 1975, actress Nancy Dussault shared the set with him. After a year, she departed and Sandy Hill was brought in. But Hill, who had worked as a reporter, wasn't happy being tied to the set and, according to rumors, wasn't exactly best friends with Hartman, who was credited with allowing ABC to mount its first serious challenge to the morning dominance of NBC's read more

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Meets His Match

Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Match Point

Jonathan Rhys Meyers had no idea what he was getting into — literally — when Woody Allen cast him in the romantic thriller Match Point, now in select theaters. "I had never read the script when Woody offered the role to me," the actor tells TVGuide.com. "And I just accepted. For any young actor to be in a Woody Allen film, you're just going to do it regardless of what it is." Once Rhys Meyers did peruse the script, he was hit with another surprise. "I was like, 'If I get four or five good scenes, I'll be gold.' And then it dawned on me how much work I had to do in this!" And how. Match Point features Rhys Meyers as Chris, a former tennis champ who latches on to new Brit bud Tom (Matthew Goode read more

ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE TO MEDICINE? DYING

The LAPD is recommending that the D.A. indict Tom Cruise's former alternative-medicine consultant (a fellow Scientologist, natch), Felice Butcher, on charges of fraud, grand theft and malpractice, the New York Post reports. The widow of Butcher's onetime cancer patient, Hustler shutterbug Clive McLean, claims that the zealot referred him to an unlicensed physician who promised to "cure my husband with these magic drops... and this silly machine." Needless to say, McLean is now dead. read more

Question: I've heard that Paul W.S. Anderson and Tom Cruise were going to remake Death Race 2000. Is there any truth to that? It sounds like a great idea to me.Answer: Though I wouldn't go so far as to say it strikes me as a great idea, I can see a new version of Death Race 2000 (1975) being fun, and apparently Tom Cruise can, too, since he's developing a remake for himself with producing partner Paula Wagner. The original screenplay was by J.F. Lawton, but Paul W.S. Anderson (that's the read more
