Jacqueline Bisset ("The Deep," "Murder on the Orient Express") stars in this dramatic story of one young woman's odyssey from innocence to decadence. She leaves British Columbia with her boyfriend at age 19, young and pretty and hopeful for a career in show business. But a detour to Las Vegas leads her into a life that by 22, no one would envy. Jim Brown ("The Dirty Dozen") and Joseph Cotten ("Citizen Kane," "Gaslight") co-star, with a quick cameo by Penny Marshall ("Laverne and Shirley"). A compelling feature from television director Jerry Paris ("Happy Days").
Christine Adams, at 19, leaves her small town to follow her boy-friend to L.A., where he works for a bank, to live with him and have babies. He's not keen on a baby right away, so she heads for Las Vegas where she gets a job as a show girl.
In his directorial debut, Peter Bogdanovich weaves two disparate story lines into a terrifying moment of confrontation. In seemingly unrelated events, aging horror film star Orlok (Boris Karloff) announces his retirement, and an apparently average young man (Tim O'Kelly) accumulates an arsenal of rifles and handguns. As the pace quickens, O'Kelly turns into a murderous sniper, showing up at a drive-in theater where Orlok is making his final personal appearance.
Mild-mannered Bobby Thompson collects firearms and thinks murderous thoughts, which translate into action when he becomes a sniper, picking off drivers on the L.A. freeway. Meanwhile Byron Orlok, an aging horror-film star, plans his retirement.
