Why ABC's 666 Park Avenue Is Not American Horror Story Lite

Rachael Taylor and Dave Annable

With the success of American Horror Story on cable, it's not surprising that broadcast networks would take another stab (no pun intended) at bringing a new horror story to the masses.

ABC will attempt to do just that on Sunday nights with 666 Park Avenue, a mystery drama based very loosely on the Gabriella Pierce novel of the same name. In the series, an innocent Midwestern couple, Henry (Dave Annable) and Jane (Rachael Taylor), get hired as resident managers of a The Drake, an Upper East Side apartment building in New York owned by Gavin (Terry O'Quinn) and Olivia Doran (Vanessa Williams). Unbeknownst to them, the residents have all made deals with The Devil to have their desires fulfilled.

Exclusive First Look: 666 Park Avenue Gets Sexy, But There’s a Devilish Twist

666 Park Avenue

"Are we going to be OK here?"

That's a line the characters of a horror show don't often ask themselves, but Jane (Rachael Taylor) says it to Henry (Dave Annable) just after moving into The Drake in the series premiere of ABC's 666 Park Avenue.

Gavin (Terry O'Quinn) and Olivia Doran (Vanessa Williams), the owners of the chic Upper East Side apartment building, hire the innocent Midwestern couple to be the building's resident managers.

Unbeknownst to them, the residents have all made deals with the devil to have their desires fulfilled. (And some desires, like in the clip below, are too hot for TV!) read more

Guide to Weekend TV: Hell "Breaks" Loose on AMC, Plus Sharks and Monkey Business

Christopher Heyerdahl

NBC will surely miss the Olympics ratings bump once the Games are over, with closing ceremony set for Sunday, but the rest of TV is more than ready to get back to business. Even as the torch is being snuffed on NBC, the lights are going on elsewhere.

Including on AMC, which airs one of the most gripping episodes to date — and that's saying something — of its dark masterpiece Breaking Bad (10/9c), in conjunction with the return of the drearily dour Western Hell on Wheels (9/8c) for its second season.

Noah Wyle

There are showers, plentiful food and unexpected reunions awaiting the 2nd Mass when they finally arrive in Charleston, South Carolina, but in the final two weeks of Falling Skies' second season, they soon learn that the promised land isn't quite paradise. In this Sunday's penultimate episode of the alien-invasion drama (9/8c, TNT) we meet Arthur Manchester (played by Lost vet Terry O'Quinn), the leader of the new United States capital, which has emerging conflicts between civil rights and martial law. 666 Park Avenue's Terry O'Quinn Plays a "Sharecropper on the Plantation of Evil"

Terry O'Quinn and Vanessa Williams

Terry O'Quinn believes the capacity for evil exists in everyone's "color wheel," and he'll be exercising one shade playing building owner Gavin Doran on ABC's upcoming drama 666 Park Avenue.

"My theory is that Gavin is kind of a sharecropper on the plantation of evil," the actor told reporters Friday at the Television Critics Association fall TV previews. "He plants the seeds, but he only gets half the harvest."

Falling Skies' Noah Wyle: Tom Has No Illusions of Peace After Visiting Aliens

Noah Wyle

Falling Skies is back on Sunday (9/8c, TNT)... and Tom Mason will be too from his time away with the alien Overlord.

Tom (Noah Wyle) will return a changed man after the aliens make it pretty clear that his visit aboard the ship was far from a peace offering. In fact, the 2nd Mass will be in even more danger this season, which could actually be Tom's fault.

Still, there may be hope on the horizon when the outside world makes contact. Will the promise of a stable life and safety be too good to be true? TVGuide.com turned to Wyle to get the scoop on the second season, including the quick progression of Anne (Moon Bloodgood) and Tom's relationship and the inevitable, impending deaths... read more

Sweetest First Impression: A handful of suitors make bold, weird entrances (arriving via helicopter, carrying an ostrich egg, dressing like a grandma) on the season premiere of The Bachelorette, but Doug takes a sweet approach. The single dad presents single mom Emily with a handwritten note from his son explaining how he's the best dad in the world and why Emily should like him. Not only does it earn him the first impression rose, but women all across America simultaneously swooned.
