Intelligent and provocative, Omaha, Neb.-based Cursive is an anomaly, even in indie rock circles. Part of the esteemed Saddle Creek roster, the Tim Kasher-led group is as fond of conceptual albums and challenging lyrics as they are fractured soundscapes and cathartic dfguitars. They re also not adverse to tossing in an exuberant brass section, as they do on their latest album, Happy Hollow. The set frankly addresses as heavy a topic as the current plight of Christianity in American society albeit belied with a deceptively bright sound. Though in the midst of a tour that will keep Cursive on the road through November, guitarist/vocalist Ted Stevens allowed himself to be strapped into the mtvU Hot Seat and submitted to our whims, erm, questions.
