After the performances Kathy signs autographs and meets the troops. She talks to everyone who waits in line, some of them up to two hours. The soldiers are grateful that the comedians traveled so far just to make them laugh. Kathy is really impressed by them: "These are teenagers, really hardworking, devoted and patriotic - nothing like those snotty kids on Laguna Beach." The group also goes to an infirmary and visits injured troops. The soldiers want to talk, and Kathy is ready to listen. One soldier tells her that the day before his fiancé and friend were killed by a rocket when the three of them were walking to the mess hall. When he recovers he wants to RTD (return to duty). Kathy is astounded and touched. On a less serious note, Kathy must stay on her diet while in Iraq. Her theory is "an insurgency is great for your figure." She's been eating mystery meat and Army-issued energy bars (which Kathy surmises are made from pressed feces). Is this the recipe for success? While visiting Army bases around Iraq, Kathy randomly calls out "Jessica" when she needs something, but no one comes running as Jessica declined the invitation to go to Iraq. She admits that she's selfish and lazy and prefers to be at home, even though "home" means being responsible for the dogs, and it's not going well. The new puppy Pom-Pom ate a pillow, a plate of leftover sushi and had explosive diarrhea in Jessica's office, and now she won't come back from the neighbor's yard. Jessica suggests it's time for a professional dog trainer. Kathy's parents are also back at the home front and watching the latest news footage from Iraq. They are alarmed that a major offensive, Operation Swarmer, is taking place. They receive a phone call from Kathy, but it does little to console them. They are very worried, even though no one in Kathy's group is concerned about their safety on the base. Plus Kathy is hitting her groove on stage with the troops, and the crowd gives her thunderous applause at the next performance. But all the fun comes to a screeching halt when a loud explosion rocks the base. watch
