Sarah Michelle Gellar in The Grudge
Sarah Michelle Gellar has signed on to reprise the role of Karen in The Grudge 2, a sequel to last year's surprise box-office hit. Buffy will appear in the follow-up only briefly — just long enough to pass along the supernatural curse to the franchise's next, as-yet-uncast, victim. [Insert your own Susan Lucci joke here.]
Meeting Mac, my fave soap goddess
On Saturday, Oct. 1, I had the honor of serving as moderator of the cast Q&A session at Passions' sixth annual fan-club event . What better place to score prime soap scoop for TVGuide.com? For those of you who couldn't make it, here's a few choice highlights from the campiest morning of my life...
8:45 am/PT Universal Studios Hollywood is a maze. Where in Hades is the Frankenstein parking lot?8:50 After valeting my car, I'm relieved to find myself in good company. James Hyde (Sam) and Liza Huber (Gwen) got lost, too.8:52 Oh, muh gawww... I'm sharing an elevator with Susan Lucci's daughter! Remain calm. Maintain inner poise.9:01 After the cast takes the stage, this TVGuide.com reporter is introduced to 200 crazed soap fans, most of whom appear to be wondering who the heck I am. Guess they don't use the Internet much?9:02 As an icebreaker, I stroll over to Eric Martsolf
Hell's wedding belle
Passions' spitfire Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald (Lindsay Hartley) has already sold her soul once in hopes of winning the object of her obsession, Ethan Winthrop. Next week, she does it again!
On Sept. 28, Alistair Crane takes perverse pride in presenting Theresa to Harmony's residents as his new bride. Later the sadistic billionaire stuns his heirs with another juicy revelation about Theresa and the Crane fortune.
"Ethan is distraught and disgusted," his portrayer, Eric Martsolf, tells TVGuide.com. "Although he's married to Gwen [played by Susan Lucci's daughter, Liza Huber], it's no secret Theresa still has a huge hold on his heart. It's beyond Ethan's comprehension that she would align herself with Alistair, the epitome of evil, even though he raped her! Plus Ethan was raised with Alistair as his grandfather. This marriage is just a bad idea."
Of course, this is hardly Theresa's first unholy alliance. "She's making the rou
Today through Sept. 9, stars from ABC's All My Children, General Hospital and One Life to Live will unite on The View in "Operation: Soap Hope," a fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Katrina. On Sesame Street, the multi-talented Sonia Manzano has served both as a performer (she's played Maria since the Nixon Administration) and a staff writer (sharing 13 Emmys for writing for a children's series). Recently, TV Guide Online met with Manzano at the Sesame Workshop on New York's Upper West Side to learn all about one of TV's most unique jobs.
TV Guide Online: Maria must be one of the longest-running characters on television. You're right up there with Susan Lucci's Erica on All My Children!Sonia Manzano: Right. In the beginning, she used to run a lending library in a bookstore where the fix-it shop is now. In those days, 20-year-olds looked 14, not like today. So I kinda came on the show as a "teen." I've been able to be the same character — albeit one that fell in love, got married, had a baby, grew up. I've been able to
