Susan Profitt tells Vinnie that Mel is ill and asks him to escort her to a party at the French consulate in his place. At the party, Susan plants an incriminating cable in Vinnie's coat and tells him to meet her upstairs. Unfortunately, Vinnie walks right into a trap. He is searched by the French guards and held when they discover the cable. Vinnie tells Monsieur Lizot, the officer in charge, that he knows nothing of the cable and that he escorted Susan to the reception. However, Susan is brought in and she tells Lizot that she doesn't know Vinnie.
