SUPER BOWL XL: EVERYTHING ELSEWell folks, I'm here to cover everything besides the football. The commercials, the entertainment, still more commercials — just think of me as a food critic who's more concerned with the side dishes than the main course. (Mmm, mashed potatoes.) And away we go.
Preshow and HalftimeStevie Wonder and Friends — the friends including John Legend, Joss Stone (so sexy with the bare feet!), India.Arie and a whole mess of dancers — treat us to a head-bopping medley of classics, from "Superstition" to "Dancin' in the Streets." Wow, it's nice to see a Motown tribute done by artists with a vested interest in the genre — as opposed to the annual soulless, badly choreographed version we get on American Idol. The national anthem proves a little tough for me to get through, not because Aaron Neville

Question: I recently saw the trailer for The Pink Panther, and it wasn't what I expected. I thought I'd be seeing a CGI version of the Pink Panther, but instead I got Steve Martin making a fool of himself. So what's the connection between the actual Pink Panther and the movie?Answer: This one really threw me for a loop, but I guess I have to assume you've only seen The Pink Panther TV cartoons, not the original The Pink Panther (1963) or any of its sequels (a case history in diminishing returns, but that's another story), which starred Peter Sellers as bumbling French police inspector Jacques Clouseau. In the first film, "pink panther" wasn't Clouseau's nickname: It was the name of the rare gem that debonair jewel thief Sir Charles Lytton (

Hell's Kitchen
Melissa came out of the gate strong and used that momentum to win a bunch of challenges and carry her across the finish line and off to the school of her dreams — Pomona College. While I'm sure it's a good school (and I certainly don't mean to sound like a snobby Ivy Leaguer, since I myself didn't attend one) but I expected that Melissa — like most of the people on this show —was attending a big-name university. But good for her for finding what, according to my quick Google search, looks like a pretty tough school to get into, with a hefty little tuition that she now doesn't have to worry about, thanks to the scholarship committee and Steve Martin (yes, the wild-and-crazy guy himself exec-produced this show). This turned out to be a good-natured series that focused on the positive and left all that nasty reality backstabbing behind. What a nice idea to have the three finalists' mentors give speeches, and to have a former competitor get up and say

For those who miss the early, funny Steve Martin, you'll get to see that "wild and crazy guy" onscreen again when Bringing Down the House hits theaters March 7. At least, that's what co-star Queen Latifah thinks. "This is Steve Martin at his best to me," she tells TV Guide Online. "It's funny and edgy. It's like The Jerk!"
In the film, Martin plays a straight-laced attorney whose workaholic ways have driven away his wife (Jean Smart) and two children. Newly single, he meets a woman over the Internet and invites her to his house for a romantic dinner. When he opens the door, however, he discovers his dream date is actually an escaped convict — played by Latifah, of course! — who wants his legal services. In return, she gives him lessons in c
