His father, Steve Dorff, has penned music for a variety of movies and TV programs, including the Clint Eastwood films Bronco Billy and Every Which Way but Loose, as well as for Growing Pains, Murphy Brown, Reba.
Attributed his interest in acting to a visit to the set of Clint Eastwood's movie Every Which Way but Loose when he was 13 years old.
Feature-film debut came in the 1987 teen-horror flick The Gate.
Adopted a British accent as short-lived Beatles member Stuart Sutcliffe in the 1994 biopic Backbeat.
Garnered rave reviews for his portrayal of drag queen Candy Darling in I Shot Andy Warhol (1996).
