Janitor Lucas (Arthur Kennedy) commiserates with veteran teacher Miss Thornton (Mildred Dunnock), who had been favored to become the new principal, when board member Swain (Lloyd Nolan) brings in Rossi (Lee Philips), who got the job, in Peyton Place, 1957, from the Grace Metalious novel.
