8 Reasons Why I’m Recommitting to Glee

It's not easy being a Gleek. At least, it wasn't earlier this season. Aside from the sudden and tragic death of star Cory Monteith, and the subsequent sudden and tragic death of his character Finn Hudson, the Fox musical comedy (Tuesdays, 8/7c, Fox) felt a bit, well, off-key in the first part of Season 5. The story lines started to feel either predictable or haphazard, the music was bland and most of the theme episodes like The Beatles two-part tribute or "Previously Unaired Christmas," lacked a real purpose or message.

Thankfully, the show returned from its extended hiatus re-energized and looking — and more importantly sounding — like its old self. After weeks of letting Season 5 collect virtual dust on the DVR, here are eight reasons why it's time to ...read more

Ask Matt: The Walking Dead, Idol, Glee, True Detective, Breaking Bad Spinoff

Send questions and comments to askmatt@tvguidemagazine.com and follow me on Twitter!

Question: I am so disappointed in The Walking Dead. I cannot believe that they have indicated that there is an interest on the part of Daryl towards Beth. That is just ick. She is 17 and while I don't know what his age is supposed to be, I've always assumed his character is at least mid 30s. Let me repeat, ick! And it's not as if she is a mature 17-year-old, her character comes across as a complete child to me with just as much growing needed as Carl. In fact, Carl seems more mature to me at times. Why would the writers go there? All I can think is how perverted it is for Daryl to express an interest in a 17-year-old girl, and a character that I once loved is now bordering along the lines of a pedophile. My sister is so upset she thinks she might fast-forward over any story lines that involve Daryl. I know this is a TV show, but all I could think of was people's horrified reaction when Miley Cyrus twerked on Robin Thicke. Where is that horror now? On the upside, I've been reading your column for years and have always greatly enjoyed your thoughts and opinions even when they have differed from my own. Thanks for allowing me to vent. — KC

The Thursday Playlist: Ground Floor Works the Sitcom Formula

The "upstairs downstairs" framework we've come to love on Downton Abbey translates fairly well to the world of corporate workplace romantic comedy in TBS's Ground Floor, a likable if decidedly modest bauble from sitcom vets Bill Lawrence (Cougar Town) and Greg Malins (Friends), working in the too-often-disparaged mode of traditional multi-camera comedy. (The first two episodes air back-to-back Thursday starting at 10/9c.)

Pitch Perfect Star Skylar Astin Sings on Ground Floor with "Funny Johnny C." McGinley

As one of the stars of Broadway's Spring Awakening and the hit a capella film Pitch Perfect, Skylar Astin has won fans and stolen hearts thanks in no small part to his beautiful voice. Which is why it makes total sense that, despite the fact that he's playing a suit-wearing banker on the new workplace comedy Ground Floor (Thursday, 10/9c), TBS is putting his singing talents to good use. Not only does he get to rock out to Aerosmith in the show's promos, but he also belts some Elton John in the show's premiere.  "It's always done with a comedy twist," Astin tells TVGuide.com. "It's always done out of a real, genuine story-driven moment and it never feels cheap or unearned. People are really going to have their cake and eat it too."

To preview his new show, in which his character, Brody, falls for a maintenance supervisor (Briga Heelan) who works on the ground floor of his building, Astin talked with TVGuide.com about moving to TV, co-star John C. McGinley's stories and performing in front of a live studio audience... read more
