Critic's Guide to Thursday TV: Return of Bones and Burn Notice and More!

Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz

"Sort of like an eclipse — it doesn't happen that often." That's Angela's wry take on the remarkable sight of "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) crying copiously at a grisly crime scene, as Fox's Bones (9/8c) finally begins its seventh season, re-establishing ...

The Mentalist: Has Patrick Jane Been Framed for Murder?

The Mentalist's third season literally ended with a bang when Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) gunned down a man he believed to be Red John (Bradley Whitford), the serial killer who killed Jane's wife and child.

Fall Preview: Get scoop on your favorite returning shows

But did he really kill Red John? "There's a lot of questions to be answered," creator Bruno Heller tells TVGuide.com of the Season 4 premiere (Thursday, 10/9c, CBS). "If that was Red John, then Red John was still one jump ahead of him because he was able to frame him for killing an innocent man."

Indeed, Jane... read more

Simon Baker and Catherine Dent

A female FBI agent is going to make waves on The Mentalist this season — both inside the CBI and in Agent Wayne Rigsby's love life.

TVGuide.com has learned that The Shield star Catherine Dent will appear in multiple Season 4 episodes as Special Agent Susan Darcy, a seasoned and assertive FBI agent who often downplays her intelligence to get what she wants without causing friction. Even so, she's sure to rub a few people the wrong way: As we previously reported, her character will but heads with Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney) when she takes over one of their cases... read more

ADAM:
Archie Panjabi says viewers will get new insight into Kalinda's relationship with Will. "The two of them look out for each other a lot," Panjabi says. "I think we'll definitely get to see that in Season 3. They used to spend a lot of time drinking in bars." The Mentalist: Did Patrick Jane Really Kill Red John?

The Mentalist

It was perhaps last season's boldest finale. After three seasons, The Mentalist's Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) finally came face-to-face with the man he believed to be Red John (guest-star Bradley Whitford), the serial killer who killed Jane's wife and daughter. The two had a long, intense conversation as Jane tried to confirm that he was indeed in the presence of his nemesis. Once he did just that, Jane took his vengeance, shooting the man in broad daylight and surrendering himself to the authorities that came charging in.

Spoiler alert: Simon Baker talks about The Mentalist's shocking season finale

But did he really kill Red John? And if so, what does that mean for both Jane's future (is he going to jail?) and the show's long-term goals? TVGuide.com chatted with creator and executive producer Bruno Heller to get the answers... read more

Keck's Exclusives: The Mentalist Star Meets The Royals

Owain Yeoman

Somehow my ticket to mingle with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (that would be William and Kate) during their L.A. visit this past weekend must have been misplaced. No worries. The Mentalist star Owain Yeoman (Wayne Rigsby), one of the honorees at Saturday night's BAFTA Brits to Watch event, phoned me up with a play-by-play of the black tie event, which was attended by the future King and Queen of England, as well as Barbra Streisand, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Jason Bateman, Quentin Tarantino and Paul Rudd.

SPOILER ALERT—STOP READING NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE! Simon Baker's Patrick Jane finally came face-to-face with the madman who slaughtered his family — and the culprit perfectly embodied the phrase "the banality of evil." Casting the always-likable Bradley Whitford (the West Wing vet just starred in a show called The Good Guys, for cripes' sake!) as the chillingly cruel serial killer was a masterstroke. "You expected me to have warts?" Red John, if it was in fact him, taunted the man he's haunted for years. "I'm not a monster."
