T.R. Knight Reveals Why He Left Grey's Anatomy

T.R. Knight and Shonda Rhimes

T.R. Knight says a "breakdown in communication" with Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes led him to quit the hit ABC drama — and that Rhimes tried to discourage him from coming out soon after Isaiah Washington used an anti-gay slur.

Knight said that during "IsaiahGate" — when Washington referred to Knight with an anti-gay slur during an October 2006 on-set argument with Patrick Dempsey — Rhimes "was concerned about having my [coming out] statement come out so close to the event."

Rhimes denies it: "I said [to T.R.], 'If you want to come out, that's awesome,'" she told Entertainment Weekly.

T.R. Knight Speaks Out: "Leaving Grey's Was Not Easy"

T.R. Knight

Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes and T.R. Knight have confirmed that Knight is leaving the ABC drama.

"Leaving Grey's Anatomy was not an easy decision for me to make," Knight said in a statement on Friday. "I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to play this character [Dr. George O'Malley] and will miss my fellow cast and crew very much. I continue to wish them the very best, and wholeheartedly thank all of the fans who have supported me and the show with such passion and enthusiasm."

Latest Grey's Rumors Ripped as "Ridiculous," "False" and "B.S."

T.R. Knight, Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes is nipping in the bud talk that the role of George — who last was seen barely alive after being mauled, mangled and mashed in a bus accident — will be recast with a new actor.

"A hilarious, ridiculous rumor" is how Rhimes, via Twitter, qualified the speculation.

Getting someone new to play a surgically made-over George would conveniently pave the way for T.R. Knight to vacate the role ... read more

As Grey's Marks 100 Episodes, Is an End Date Near?

Shonda Rhimes with Grey's star Ellen Pompeo

Although ABC's Lost, which just last week marked its own 100th episode, is zeroing in on a May 2010 series finale, don't expect Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes to make like "Team Darlton" and handcuff herself to her own finish line.

"I have no end story or date in mind at all," Rhimes tells the Hollywood Reporter. "I just want us to tell stories as long as we feel it's relevant."

This Thursday, Grey's Anatomy celebrates the "century" mark with what is intended to be the wedding of longtime lovebirds Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd. The odds of that anticipated union going off without a hitch, however ... read more

Grey's Wedding Site Draws Thousands of RSVPs; Show Boss Promises a "Beautiful" Ceremony

Is Mer in fact heading for a wedding?

A website celebrating the fast-approaching wedding between Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd drew 42,000 unique visitors and collected 1,400 comments on its "guest book" in its first 24 hours.

The idea for the site, hosted by real-life wedding hub TheKnot.com and ostensibly managed by the show's Izzie character, came to Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes as the show filmed its April 23 episode, in which Izzie snapped photos of her gal-pal begrudgingly test-driving dresses.

Save the Date, May 7: Nice Day for a Grey's Wedding?

Will Grey's Anatomy's Mer becomes Mrs. McDreamy?

The only question is whose, exactly.

At a party marking the filming of Grey's Anatomy's 100th episode, series creator Shonda Rhimes confirmed that the milestone hour will air May 7 — and indicated that it might feature the nuptials of the show's central couple.

"The only thing I'll tell you about the 100th [episode] is that it takes place on ... read more
