Southland's powerful Season 3 finale ended with a moment two years in the making: Officer John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) checked into the hospital to undergo back surgery, admitting his painkiller addiction and submitting himself to a medical detox.

Of course, Cooper only did so after his trainee, Ben Sherman (Benjamin McKenzie) — who was involved in a rooftop foot chase and wrestling match without backup because of Cooper's poor physical health — threatened to rat him out to police brass. It was an intense showdown —one that fans have waited a long time to see. "I would have preferred that this would have happened four episodes ago," Cudlitz tells TVGuide.com.
Even though he's still grieving for recently murdered Detective Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro), Southland's Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy) will soon be assigned a new partner. And as TVGuide.com has learned exclusively, fans of the show will most definitely recognize Sammy's new wingman.

Laz Alonso will reprise his role as Detective Gil Puente in the Season 3 finale. Alonso previously appeared in three episodes in Season 2 as a former partner of Nate's who helped Nate and Sammy work undercover on a gang case.
Sammy and Gil often disagreed on how to handle the case, so could there be more bad blood during their reunion?

I have no doubt that police officers and their spouses suffer from substance-abuse issues at a high rate along with the rest of the population, but it seems like everyone's copping on Season 3 of TNT's crime drama...
Benjamin McKenzie and John Cudlitz
It's odd to think that the cast of a show entering its third season has never shot more than six episodes at a time, but that's the case for TNT's Southland.
The gritty police drama debuted as a midseason replacement on NBC in 2009 and earned a 13-episode renewal for Season 2. Then, NBC canceled the show before it even premiered, allowing TNT to buy and air the six episodes NBC had in the can in early 2010.

So when TNT ordered a 10-episode third season, which begins Tuesday at 10/9c, the cast and crew were equally excited and cynical. "Well, the joke on set is...

Embrace your inner lizard. V is back for a second season tonight on ABC (9/8c), with a red tint in the air and an ominous shower of red rain (the episode's title) falling on the embattled earthlings, although on my screener, everything looked orange. The color of cheese.

As if keeping your job in this economy wasn't hard enough, Eva La Rue's character Natalia Boa Vista puts her entire career on the line when she takes aim at Horatio (David Caruso) on Sunday's episode of CSI: Miami (10/9c, CBS).

It's angels in America time again, as Castiel wings it back to Earth to help the brothers solve a case of police murders that seems to hark back to the plagues of Egypt. Michael C. Hall and Shawn Hatosy, Dexter
Southland star Shawn Hatosy says he was thrilled to play a villain on Season 5 of Dexter after "playing three or four cops in a row."

"I was dying to do it," Hatosy tells TVGuide.com "I enjoy doing all that [cop work], but to kind of stretch the muscles a little bit and step outside that world was exciting.
"It's so surreal," he continues. "When you think about what it is that [the Dexter crew does] daily, with the blood and strapping people to tables, it's just a unique type of employment."
Hatosy, who first appears in Sunday's episode (9/8c on Showtime), plays Boyd Fowler, a sanitation worker responsible for dead animal control...
