The FBI is within striking distance of Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) on The Following, but the greatest threat to Carroll's plan may be his own right-hand man, Roderick (Warren Kole). Though Roderick has FBI agents Debra Parker (Annie Parisse) and Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) convinced he's nothing more than a local sheriff heading into Monday's episode (9/8c, Fox), he won't be able to maintain the ruse for long.
"He's unraveling," The Following's Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) said of cult leader Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) in the most recent episode of Fox's serial killer drama.
With Joe suffering from writer's block, dealing with incompetent followers, and realizing that the FBI is getting closer and closer to his hideout, it does seem like the demented web he's weaving is coming apart at the seams. And in Monday's new episode (9/8c, Fox), it becomes clearer than ever that things are not quite falling into place for the escaped serial killer.
The FBI has been down a man for the past few episodes of Fox's The Following, but Monday's episode (9/8c, Fox) marks the return of Agent Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore). And, after the nasty beating he suffered at the hands of the Followers, Weston is more intent than ever on finding convicted serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) and his cult. But is that a good thing or a bad thing?
"When Weston comes back, he's definitely a different agent," Ashmore tells TVGuide.com. "He's a little more impulsive, and he deals differently with the Followers when he comes into contact with them. ... The way that he reacts, the way that things go down when he comes back, it's certainly not necessarily in Weston's character. He's definitely changed and affected by what has happened to him."
Killer cults. Sexually confused kidnappers. Creepy-ass Poe masks. What is a nice Canadian boy like Shawn Ashmore—who plays baby-faced FBI Mike Weston—doing on a show like The Following?!
TV Guide Magazine: OK, this show is messed up. Has it made you more paranoid about meeting people on the street?
Shawn Ashmore: Yes. Because it's never the ones you expect! [Laughs]
The most recent episode of The Following ended with Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) on the stairs of the kidnappers' safe house with a gun being pressed into his neck by Paul (Adan Canto). Help is on the way, but will the SWAT team get there in time?
