Exclusive: New Young and the Restless Head Writer Josh Griffith Talks About the Future

The CBS-Sony soap The Young and the Restless owed Josh Griffith a huge debt of gratitude when he did double duty as exec producer and head writer during the 2007-2008 Writers Guild strike. Not only did the three-time Emmy winning Griffith keep Y&R afloat during that treacherous time, he improved the show drastically. But no good deed goes unpunished in Soapland! When the strike was over, Griffith was pushed out. Now he's back as head writer, working with new exec producer Jill Farren Phelps to get this once-mighty serial back in shape after the devastating reign of Maria Bell. read more

Daytime Emmy Watch: Handicapping the Best Soap Nominations

Nominations for the 38th annual Daytime Emmy Awards won't be announced until May 11 but we can tell you right now which soaps are most likely to land in the Outstanding Daytime Drama competition. Here's a look at what each of the seven serials submitted for the top prize and how they stack up.

All My Children (episode 10,505; airdate November 23, 2010)
A strong, crackling hour during which Dr. David Hayward — not dead after all — walks into the courtroom during his murder trial and shocks the snot out of everyone in Pine Valley. Oddly, there are no out-of-the-park performances here but the noir-ish flashbacks detailing how the dastardly doc (played by fan fave Vincent Irizarry) faked his demise and tried to frame his rival Ryan are exceptionally well crafted and quite riveting. The stuff of grand memories? Not really. But this is good, solid work and in some years (like this one) that's more than enough to put a show in the race.

Young and the Restless' Michelle Stafford: Still Keeping Phyllis Crazy After All These Years

It's been 16 years since Michelle Stafford hit The Young and the Restless as scheming rock groupie Phyllis Summers — and two Emmys and eight nominations later she's still playing it bad to the bone. These days Phyllis is a hotshot magazine editor with a poisonous blog that's pissing off half of Genoa City. And she's always on the lookout for smarm! On November 29, the flame-haired nutjob will head to New Orleans to get the scoop on Adam Newman (Michael Muhney) after the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Skye (Laura Stone). While there, Phyllis also finds her ex-husband Nick (Joshua Morrow) and archenemy Sharon (Sharon Case). Y&R shot four episodes in the Big Easy (they begin airing November 24) with locations ranging from the French Quarter to the allegedly haunted Lafayette Cemetery. ... read more

Looking Forward to the Daytime Emmys

I did a photo shoot with Joshua Morrow (Nick) and Sharon Case (Sharon) the other day. It was really fun — or at least Sharon and I had fun. Josh couldn’t wait to get out of there. He had a softball game to go to, and taking pictures is not Josh’s favorite thing to do. Here he had two hot babes draped over him and he still didn’t like it.Sharon just got married, so she’s in honeymoon bliss. It’s very sweet to see. Me myself, I’m alone, barren and lonely, ha ha ha. That’s completely a joke. Of course I'm not barren. The Daytime Emmys are next week. It will be very fun I’m sure. It's always fun to see everybody. I’m very much looking forward to the lead-actress luncheon on Thursday. And I picked the place and put together the event, since Susan Flannery (Stephanie, B&B) was egregiously not nominated this year — although she will be coming to the luncheon. Unfortunately, Maura West (Carly, ATWT) cannot attend. I’m very bumme... read more
