  • NBC Unveils Fall Lineup, Including Parenthood, Two Medical Dramas & More Thursday SNLs | Today's News: Our Take | 5/4/2009
NBC has revealed "Part 1" of its plan for the 2009-10 TV season, and it includes a second season of Parks and Recreation, a half-dozen installments of Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday, and four new dramas.

In addition to renewing Parks and Rec, NBC also officially picked up Heroes for a fourth (albeit likely shortened) season. Previously announced returns include The Office, 30 Rock, Law & Order: SVU, Friday Night Lights, The Biggest Loser and Celebrity Apprentice.

  • Saturday Night Live: "Weekend Update Thursday" 10.9.08 | TV Show Recaps | 10/10/2008

This is the first of four specials that Saturday Night Live will be airing on Thursday nights. Rumor has it that at some point, Sarah Palin, will make an appearance as Tina Fey, which, with the two appearing on the same show, may result in the apocalypse. But, in the meantime, we got a special appearance from SNL alum Chris Parnell and a fantastic surprise midway through the first sketch to ask a question: Bill Murray!

Opening Sketch: CNN – The Presidential Debate

Fred Armisen plays Obama, Darrell Hammond plays McCain and Chris Parnell plays Tom Brokaw … and they all nail each one's mannerisms and voice cadences. Well done! "Tom" says the candidates only get 25 seconds to answer one of the "eight least interesting questions" he's picked and they'll only get three second response. Ha! This is clearly playing off the fact that Brokaw was more of a time referee than a moderator at the debate. The candidates can be real windbags, no? And, I say that with patriotic affection. It also tickles my fancy is that Casey Wilson and Bill Hader ask the questions exactly like the deer-caught-in-headlights "folks" who were featured at the debate. Obama answers questions in his staccato signature style, and McCain tries to come off as a bad ass before calling the audience members by the wrong name and walking into Obama's camera frame ...

  • Seth Meyers: "No Truth" to Sarah Palin Appearing on SNL | Today's News: Our Take | 10/8/2008

The most anticipated showdown this week may not happen.

Contrary to rumors, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is not scheduled to appear on Thursday's primetime edition of Saturday Night Live, Seth Meyers told New York's Newsday.

"Of those specific rumors, there's no truth," he said. "We do have an open door policy, but there's nothing specific yet, but our window of opportunity is ...

  • SNL's Seth Meyers Steps Behind the Camera for The Line | Today's News: Our Take | 8/19/2008
Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers stopped by our TVGuide.com studios to talk about his new online series, The Line. We're used to seeing Meyers serving up laughs as co-anchor of the hilarious "Weekend Update" (among other skits), but this time actor-writer decided to direct the seven webisodes about two friends who wait in line for 11 days to get primo spots for the opening showing of the (fictional) movie, Future Space. I had the chance to ask Meyers about stepping behind the lens for the first time, working with his SNL castmates Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis and if he's ready to direct again. — Erin Fox read more
  • The TV Weekend: Oscars and SNL | Matt Roush | 2/25/2008
It was Oscar's 80th birthday, but it only felt like Sunday night's show went on for 70 years. (Official count: three hours, 20 minutes.) It’s an annual ritual, beating up on the annual Academy Awards broadcast for being too long, bloated, boring. That can especially be a problem when the show is as free of surprise as this year's was — true, Marion Cotillard's victory over Julie Christie for best actress was unexpected (though well earned), and I loved her gracious and giddy speech (one of the night's few truly memorable and spontaneous moments), but seriously, how many people saw either of their movies? In a year when most of the major film contenders fell something short of cultural phenomena, it's up to the host to make the show relevant and dynamic. Jon Stewart had his work cut out for him, with precious little prep time thanks to the writers’ strike, not to mention the preoccupation of an ongoing, historic presidential campaign that inspired some of his best jokes... read more
