CBS Wants to Buy a Millionaire

Don't fear, CBS hasn't decided to bring over Who Wants to Be a Millionaire from ABC, but instead has picked up a new comedy pilot called Single White Millionaire, from writer Ricky Blitt. This is Family Guy alum Blitt's second attempt at a comedy, the first being a short-lived sitcom called The Winner, which starred Rob Corddry and was developed with Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane. SWM is about a millionaire who is ready to get serious and settle down, which I'm sure will not go as well as he had planned.Hopefully, this time Blitt will strike gold on CBS, where sitcoms still live, breathe and sometimes even last (sorta). Also on CBS' order slate are the following dramas: The Mentalist, Ny-Lon, Mythological X and Can Openers. —Erin FoxDo you think people want to watch a show about a millionaire who is unlucky in love?Watch episodes of Family Guy at our Online Video Guide. read more

It looks like Fox just can't get enough of Seth MacFarlane.According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox and 20th Century Fox TV are working with MacFarlane to develop a spin-off from his wildly popular series Family Guy. The show would feature Cleveland Brown, Family Guy's mild-mannered voice of caution, in a series tentatively titled Cleveland. The project is being written by MacFarlane, Mike Henry (who voices Cleveland) and Rich Appel, executive producer of MacFarlane's other Fox series, American Dad. Fox hopes the series will complement their Sunday-night comedy lineup, which features The Simpsons alongside MacFarlane's two other series. — Adam Bryant read more

Strike Talk: Seth MacFarlane's Family Feud, and More

Family Guy courtesy Fox, Seth MacFarlane by Michael Yarish/Fox

If Fox goes ahead and airs a new Family Guy this Sunday without creator Seth MacFarlane's seal of approval, although the net is within its rights to do so, Seth says it will be "a colossal d--k move" and "damaging to our relationship".... In a curious show of support for strikers, Curb Your Enthusiasm's Jeff Garlin handed out adult-film DVDs at a rally in L.A., the New York Post reports. Thankfully, he wasn't actually in the videos.... NBC is bailing on the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, reports Variety. Family Guy Sneak Peek

Family Guy courtesy Fox

The Television Critics Association press tour were given a sneak peek of a stunning Family Guy episode scheduled for November (presented in a live reading by creator Seth MacFarlane and the rest of the cast). Finally, Stewie Griffin makes good on his attempt to kill his mother Lois. The episode, which hilariously reached new heights of tastelessness, prompted one writer to ask MacFarlane afterwards: "What shocks or offends you?" MacFarlane pondered the question for a moment and replied: "The Bush administration." — Reporting by Stephen Battaglio read more

March 4, 2007: "The Pilot"

Being a fan of both The Daily Show and Family Guy, I’ve been looking forward to The Winner and tonight’s pilot did not disappoint me. Family Guy creators Seth MacFarlane and Ricky Blitt successfully bring their oddball humor to the show’s main character, Glen Abbott, and I think there is no one better to portray the 32-year old loser than Daily Show expatriate Rob Corddry.First off, I love how the show is set in 1994. The subtle (and not so subtle) 90’s references cracked me up, among them Glen’s Party of Five mention and of course, the O.J. Simpson car chase. I think one of the funnier lines in tonight’s pilot was Glen’s mom, Irene (Linda Hart), declaring that O.J. “couldn’t hurt a fly,” rivaled only by Allison (Erinn Hayes) noting that Clinton “seems to be a good family man.” I love how the writers intentionally take us back to 1994 through these references and I’m excited to see more of them as the series continues.... read more

February 25, 2007: Family Guy Versus Oscar

The Academy Awards are on tonight, so Fox scheduled two Family Guy repeats. From 9-10 pm/ET tonight I switched back and forth between Oscar coverage and Family Guy, so this post will be about both. Right before I hit the Fox pre-set button on my remote, they had just handed out the first Oscar of the evening. It only took almost 30 minutes. And what a first award it was! Art Direction. Riveting! I couldn’t hit the button fast enough. I love movies and although every year I rant and rave about the Academy Awards, I watch. It’s a televised gaper delay. The clock turned 9:00, and I moved over to Family Guy. The first episode provided one of the best sight gags this season: Joe’s legs floating to the surface of the beer vat every three seconds. And the idea of messing about with the opening credit sequence was inspired. During the first commercial break I switched back over to the Oscars. Alan Arkin won Best Supporting Actor for Little Miss Sunshine! Now that made me happ... read more
