Sergio Garcia Fast Facts:
Picked up the game of golf at the age of 3 and won his first club championship at 12.
Became the youngest player to make the cut at a European Tour event (1995) and the youngest member of the European Ryder Cup team (1999).
Nicknamed "El Nino" while taking the golf world by storm in the late '90s, coming to prominence in the U.S. with his remarkable 6-iron shot from behind a tree at the 1999 PGA Championship.
Established himself in 1999 as a driving force in the Ryder Cup team competition, achieving a 14-3-3 record in his matches as Europe beat the U.S. in three of Garcia's first four Cup events.
Developed, in 2002, a pre-shot habit of gripping and re-gripping the club between 10 and 30 times while over the ball; rid himself of the habit after TV coverage used on-screen counters to track the number of "waggles."
Has dated tennis star Martina Hingis, actor Jessica Alba and model Nikki Novak.
