Inside Idol's Finale: Blake and Doug, "Crying Girl" and More

Idol's Blake scored his own big "W," beatboxing with Doug E. Fresh.

In the end, the only person who didn't know that Jordin Sparks was going to be crowned the newest American Idol was... Jordin Sparks. After host Ryan Seacrest (finally!) got around to announcing Sparks as the winner, the 17-year-old high-school junior from Arizona said that she had no idea she was the odds-on favorite to join Kelly, Reuben, Fantasia, Carrie and Taylor as America's favorite singer. "I've been in a bubble," Sparks told TVGuide.com after being crowned the youngest Idol to date. "When I went home [after making the finals] there was so much support, but that was from my home state. I had no idea what everyone was thinking." Sparks needed to go no further than the red carpet outside the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Wednes read more

This week, two of my favorite...

This week, two of my favorite reality shows signed off with satisfying (if, in one case, anticlimactic) season finales. On Bravo's thoroughly addictive Project Runway, Chloe Dao won on the strength of her glamorous, vivid collection, which to my eyes did outshine both Daniel Vosovic's and Santino Rice's. But in the bigger picture, I still feel Daniel won the season, so I was a bit deflated when it was all over. Daniel dominated many of the challenges, and even his relatively tame collection was lovely to behold. And unlike businesslike Chloe, Daniel's passion for his craft was evident throughout the season. (The less said the better about Santino, who did manage to create a couple of stunners in his collection. But he's had his time hogging the spotlight, and I'm more than happy to move on.) And then there's WB's adorable read more

American Idol Last week Becky...

Lake, The Amazing Race

American Idol Last week Becky went back to the pages of Maxim, and Stevie? Nixed. The top 10 were a bit disappointing tonight. The ladies made some bad song choices, and almost every one of them attempted to sing too low for her range. Katharine combined both mistakes by kicking things off with Stevie Wonder's "All in Love Is Fair." How many times have I asked you people to please leave Stevie Wonder alone? Katharine was much more impressive last week, so hopefully she'll wow us again. Two people who may not have that chance are Brenna and Heather. Heather, there is a reason nobody has performed Mariah Carey's "Hero" on American Idol. The woman's voice goes from gutter growl to dog whistle at the spee read more

Idol's Scary Scott Speaks Out

American Idol castoff Scott Savol is not just a singer of questionable talent who's sparked heated debate among Idol addicts. He's also a man of few words. Very few words. Asked how he feels about his love/hate relationship with the audience, Savol simply tells TVGuide.com: "That remains true in life. There were people that hated me and loved me before the show, and now there are just more of them." Sure, but the knowledge that scores of Americans were rooting for his downfall must have added stress to his performances. "I knew people didn't like me," he sighs. "There are a lot of people that didn't like all of us. If we went with that and performed with that in mind, we all would have had bad performances and just canceled the show [last Wednesday] night." Much of viewers' distaste for Savol has stemmed from the publicity surrounding his violent past. (He'd previously been read more

Is American Idol's Nadia Dating Scott?

To most American Idol fans, the tabloid tattling of romance between Nadia Turner and Scott Savol sounds ludicrous. Could last week's fabulous castoff and the creepy crooner with the violent past really have a thang going on? "It's not true in any way, shape or form," Turner tells TVGuide.com, adding, "That's definitely a rumor. "It's funny. I [asked Scott to] come shopping with me. We had a bodyguard with us. This [paparazzo] comes out of nowhere, just flashing bulbs. Scott was totally just trying to veer me away from it and he put his arm around me, just to say, 'Let's get into this cab and get out of here.' If you look at the picture, they cropped the bodyguard out — and me and Scott just look like we're on a soiree [sic]. It's hilarious. We're definitely good friends."Now that we've got that mess out of the way, let's turn to the trav read more
