Question: I have been reading everyone's comments on the Isaiah Washington situation over at Grey's Anatomy. While I agree that it was both wrong and stupid to start the whole fracas again by using the word to deny the use of the word, I think there must be better ways to address the situation than firing Washington and either killing off the character or replacing him. I have found in the past that killing off a main character has had a "jumping the shark" effect on my enjoyment of the show. Perhaps instead the show can use this as a springboard to introduce a gay character and explore the issue in an intelligent manner (though hopefully less preachy than 7th Heaven). After reading your comments regarding the recasting of prime-time characters, I happily recalled the episode of Roseanne when Lecy Goranson returned after Sarah Chalke had taken over the part (and did an excellent job!), and they did the "Identical Beckys" musical number. Tonight at 9 pm/ET, Scrubs fans are in for quite a treat, as NBC presents a nearly all-musical episode of the medical comedy. There is singing and dancing, and even a ditty about doodie. TVGuide.com spoke with series creator Bill Lawrence, a big musical-theater fan, to find out why he suddenly felt the urge to have his comedy break out into song. "The tough part for us is always trying to make it organic to the show," says Lawrence. "We wouldn't have done [a musical], except that our medical advisor on the show stumbled onto this case where somebody had an aneurysm and was hearing everything in music. Obviously, they weren't hearing an entire Broadway musical with singing and dancing, but for us in the world of Scrubs, that works."

I have to start paying more attention to those doctors milling about in the background on Scrubs, because for the life of me I don't ever recall seeing actress Elizabeth Banks (Slither, 40 Year Old Virgin). But on May 9, not only will we learn that she's been there the whole time (wink, wink), but we'll discover that she's got a crush on J.D. (Zach Braff). Banks' arc will continue into the season finale on May 16 and, assuming the show will return for a sixth season (NBC, don't make me come over there!), she'll likely be back in the fall.
BTW, not to sound like a broken record or anything, but Scrubs is seriously enjoying its best season creatively to date. No show right now makes me laugh harder or with more consistency. Not only will the NBC comedy deliver a double dose of new episodes each week, and not only will Arrested Development's Jason Bateman put in an appearance — leaving Braff's J.D. tangled in a bunch of feathers! — but prepare for the crew to pay their respects to the yellow brick road in a Wizard of Oz-themed 100th episode, airing later this month.

Answer: Sarah Chalke revealed that Elliot's new hospital job "doesn't work out, so she goes to work at a free clinic and then maybe back to a real hospital." Also, Ed's Josh Randall will be back as her BF. Exec producer Bill Lawrence, meanwhile, said he's still working on getting Zach Braff's sweetie Mandy Moore for a guest stint, and he foresees the show going at least one more season beyond this coming one. Speaking of which, a reliable source (not Bill or Sarah) told me not to be surprised if Scrubs returns to NBC's lineup sooner (mid-October) rather than later (mid-season).
