Question: I would love to know your thoughts on the Cristina/Owen storyline at this point in the season of Grey's Anatomy. It goes without saying that Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd have been absolutely flawless and incredible in acting out their scenes together, particularly in last week's episode. However, do you think this is a case where the acting outshines and elevates the writing for the most part and makes it more nuanced that what is on the page of the script? While I enjoy watching Sandra and Kevin act opposite one another and while I will always root for Cristina/Owen to work it out in spite of their endless issues and this endless storyline, I feel that the writing has not been serving them or the characters we have come to know.

With several of the actors' contracts up at the end of the season — and creator Shonda Rhimes putting the finishing touches on the finale script as we speak — fans are waiting with bated breath to find out which of their favorite doctors will be returning for Season 9. While there's no official word yet on who will be back, we decided to toss out a few ideas of our own as to how Meredith, Cristina and the rest of the gang could leave. Even though not everyone's contracts are up, we came up with a crazy-but-plausible scenario for everyone — and because some of our favorite couples could get split up, we've added a few scenarios in which one half stays and the other goes. ADAM: I was actually on set last week and asked executive producer Erica Messer that very question. The short answer: Don't look for it to happen right away. Messer says she'd like to mimic what the show did in Season 3 when Joe Mantegna replaced departing star Mandy Patinkin a few episodes into the season. "I feel like we come back in Season 8 without Prentiss, and we're functioning just fine," she says. "But there's a void. We need that extra body. But I don't know who that character is yet."
