Gravity, the new Alfonso Cuaron movie about an astronaut stranded in space, set a new record for an October opening at the box office this weekend, raking in a whopping $55.6 million. It's also the biggest debut for stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, Box Office Mojo reports.
Angelina Jolie has topped Forbes' list of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. The magazine estimates that she earned $33 million between June 2012 and June 2013. Jolie has not appeared in a live-action film since 2010's The Tourist, but will return to the big screen as the title character in Disney's Sleeping Beauty adaptation Maleficent next summer.
Orange is the New Black
Remakes (House of Cards) and reboots (Arrested Development) are one way to go when establishing a brand — let's just forget about the atrocious Hemlock Grove for now — but with Orange Is the New Black, Netflix finally achieves its eureka moment with a terrifically entertaining piece of original programming that's truly and bracingly original.
The setting, an upstate New York women's prison, isn't all that new, but Orange — adapted by Weeds' Jenji Kohan from a memoir by Piper Kerman — makes it fresh by mining a deep vein of absurdist humor with an unexpectedly generous empathy for the outrageous characters its overwhelmed heroine encounters in her nightmare odyssey behind bars. When anxious Piper Chapman (a wryly understated and immediately sympathetic Taylor Schilling) is being processed to start her 15-month sentence, she's assured this isn't OZ — and it also isn't Chained (or Caged) Heat. This show is much cooler than that.
Despicable Me 2
FX has continued its summer movie spending spree, landing the commercial TV rights to the Independence Day weekend box office champ Despicable Me 2.
Despicable Me 2

The sequel had one of the best openings ever for an animated film, Box Office Mojo reports, earning $82.5 million over the weekend and $142 million total over its five-day opening.
Monsters University hasn't graduated from the top spot at the box office just yet. The animated flick grossed $46.1 million this weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
The Pixar prequel to Monsters, Inc. has spent back-to-back weeks at No. 1 and has grossed a total $171 million so far.

Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy
Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy will hold a special screening of their new comedy The Heat, which was filmed in Boston with law-enforcement support, for FBI agents and police, CNN reports.
The screening idea is in its early stages, and no date has been set, director Paul Feig said. It comes after this week’s bombing at the Boston Marathon, which killed three and injured more than 170 people. “The agents and police who are now busy with the bombing investigation gave the filmmakers so much help," Feig told CNN. "They are some of the finest people I've ever worked with," he said. "Boston is in good hands if they have to go through something like this. They are in the best hands possible." Added Bullock: "It's been an [amazingly] tight-knit community before this happened, and it just bonded a community even more. I don't think a screening would ever be enough, feel like it's enough to do for them."
Jesse James and Alexis DeJoria
Sandra Bullock's ex-husband Jesse James took another trip down the aisle over the weekend, marrying drag racer Alexis DeJoria.
The two were married on Sunday at the Malibu estate of DeJoria's father John Paul, the co-founder of Paul Mitchell hair products and Patron Spirits, Us Weekly reports.
