  • Cofounded Renaissance Motion Pictures in 1979, along with childhood friend/actor Bruce Campbell and college roommate/producer Robert Tapert.
  • Made his feature-film directorial debut in 1981 with the horror-comedy The Evil Dead, which was reportedly made for less than $500,000 but grossed nearly $10 million worldwide and spawned two sequels and a musical.
  • Received the George Pal Memorial Award in 2000 by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
  • Won a 2004 Saturn Award for Best Director for Spider-Man 2, and was nominated for the same prize for 2002's Spider-Man in 2002 and 1992's Darkman.
