First, I love your column; ...

Question: First, I love your column; you always give really insightful answers. Second, after two strong episodes of Without a Trace, I wonder what CBS is doing to my favorite show! They make a point of setting up tension between Danny and Jack, adding to the awkwardness between the two from the shooting in the premiere, but by the third episode, they've dropped the whole thing. It's very frustrating. What's more frustrating is that they've added a new cast member, Elena (Roselyn Sanchez), to a cast that doesn't need adding to. In my opinion, they have the strongest cast of the crime shows, so why mess with that chemistry? She didn't add anything in the last episode. Did you like the first two episodes? And what do you think of the new agent?
Answer: There's a lot of this "Why fix what isn't broken?" grumbling going on about the hot procedural crime dramas this season. Pretty much across the board, CBS had its crime dramas shake up the casts — losing or gaining cast or recurring cast

Loving Rescue Me's Diane Farr...

Loving Rescue Me's Diane Farr as the new behavioral scientist. What a great addition to this male-dominated show. And an extra bonus is that she's not quirky like Sabrina Lloyd; instead, she's smart and seems to work well with Charlie by adding a personality to his equations. She may not get every mathematical word that he says, but she's a good sounding board for his theories. I'm not quite loving Colby, the new FBI agent, though. He's too aggressive and too much the stereotypical rookie cop. Hopefully he'll mellow out a bit if he sticks around. Characters like that are the reason I stop watching these shows, and here I'm more interested in the unusual ways they solve these "ripped from the headlines" crimes than in the standard criminal procedures. How else would they have managed to uncover those two completely unrelated suspects in those great big stacks of people who might want to get back at the judge? And on a random funny note, I love listeni read more

Any scoop on how Diane Farr ...

Question: Any scoop on how Diane Farr will be written out of Rescue Me now that she's replacing Sabrina Lloyd on Numbers?

Answer: All Farr would tell me plotwise is that "Laura and Franco (Daniel Sunjata) go through a wild ride" as we approach the Sept. 13 finale (aka Farr's last episode).

FLAME OUT

Rescue Me's Diane Farr is joining the cast of CBS' Numbers this fall, replacing Sabrina Lloyd. Per Variety, she'll play Special Agent Megan Reeves, a Quantico grad assigned to the Los Angeles FBI office. A Rescue Me rep, meanwhile, confirms that Farr won't be back next year. Yeah, her character never could take the heat. (Someone was gonna say it, might as well be me.) read more
