VIDEO: 90210's Ryan Eggold Is Proud of His Trophy Kids

Ryan Eggold with Tahyna Tozzi, Trophy Kids

Ryan Eggold spent his summer vacation from 90210 filming Trophy Kids, an indie that he describes as "a commentary on Generation Y, these kids who sort of... have a sense of entitlement."

Eggold plays Max, a guy "who's been on Easy Street his whole life." Bored and looking to stroke his ego, Max "arrives at the idea of making a film" — about his hard-living, party-boy self, of course, says Eggold.

As Max enlists an aspiring screenwriter (played by 7th Heaven's David Gallagher) to tell his tale, "Drama ensues, and there's a girl ... read more

The Man Behind 90210's Coolest Teacher

Ryan Eggold, 90210

If all teachers were as cool as West Beverly's Ryan Matthews, we'd all be signing up for extra credit. Thankfully, the man behind the scruffy sarcasm, Ryan Eggold, makes the grade as well. Here, the 90210 star tells which student is going to be crushing on him and why he'd love to be in a bar fight. TV Guide: Tell me about Ryan…Ryan Eggold: Well, I'm a Scorpio… TV Guide: The character!Eggold: Oh yeah…. He's a young literature teacher, just out of college, so he's got a lot of spunk, you know? He's a bit rebellious, rambunctious…puckish is the word I'm gonna use from now on. [Laughs] TV Guide: He's gonna be a pain in the ass for Harry.Eggold: Oh yeah, he is. They're gonna butt heads. TV Guide: But overall, a good guy?Eggold: You k read more

TV's Pre-Premiere Week Premiere Week

Tony Shalhoub by Evans Vestal Ward/USA Network Photo

TV has really put the “labor” in Labor Day week. It’s only the third day of September, and what is many years a sleepy week has already seen the premiere of six major series (network and cable), with roughly four more (if you count Bravo’s Top Design) on tap for tonight. I dealt with several of these shows already in my Roush Review column—FX’s The Shield and Sons of Anarchy, Fox’s Prison Break, TNT’s Raising the Bar and HBO’s True Blood—but here are some more thoughts on a week so busy it’s hard to fathom that the official network premiere week is nearly three weeks away.Gossip Girl Rocks. Some of the most fun I’ve had in front of the TV in the last week or so (when I’m not absorbed in U.S. Open tennis play) was zipping through the first three episodes of Gossip Girl’s hilariously sizzling second season. On Monday night, we learned that mopey Serena was getting through her summer-without-Dan by watching The Close... read more

90210's New Teacher Hints How He'll Heat Up West Bev

This fall, there's not only a new class coming in at the new 90210's West Beverly High, there's also a brand new teacher, fresh out of college and ready to influence young minds. You with me here? The new teach on the scene is Ryan Matthews, played by Dirt's own Ryan Eggold. Now that Eggold's Farber Kauffman won't be returning to the air, he can focus his attention on the nubile newbies of West Bev. At Friday's STRIDE Gum's Ridiculously Long Lasting Celebration, Eggold talked to TVGuide.com about how things will play out for him in (and out) of the classroom. By Eggold's account, Mr. Matthews is "kind of a kid himself. A lot of options there." One of those "options" will play out in the pilot episode. "There is some tension between a student and myself," he said. The illicit intermingling, however, may not come to fruition: "I'm not sure where they're going to go with it," Eggold said. "I do have a love interest, I can't say yet [who]."Fans of indie flick Half Nelson should recognize... read more

90210 Scoop: Jessica Walter to Play the Drunk Granny!

Jessica Walter by Jeff Vespa/WireImage.com

It isn't Kelly Bishop, but this will do rather nicely: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Arrested Development's grande dame, Jessica Walter, has been cast as hard-drinkin', faded, '70s-movie-star Tabitha Mills on the CW's fast-tracked-for-fall 90210 update. To recap: Tabitha is the grandmother of the show's central teens, siblings Brenda Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Brandon Walsh Dixon Mills. As I reported yesterday, Lori Loughlin will play the pair's mother. The role of the dad (and Tabitha's son) has yet to be cast. I don't know about you, by my excitement about this show just swelled tenfold. This Just In: Dirt's Ryan Eggold has snagged the role of Ryan "the teacher."Related:• Hilary Duff Out, Degrassi Teen In at New 90210• Exclusive: Lori Loughlin Is 90210's New Cindy Walsh read more
