Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan is doing well after undergoing a cardial bypass, according to the actress' rep.
"She is doing absolutely great," McClanahan's rep told Access Hollywood. "She went for her physical the other day and her doctor didn't like what he found.... She was in great spirits when she went in for surgery yesterday. She's resting in a hospital in [New York] and she'll probably be out in a week."
The unexpected surgery forced McClanahan to cancel her appearance at a Nov. 14 tribute event in San Francisco. "My darlings, I'm just devastated that I am going to have to miss my own tribute at the Castro Theatre," McClanahan said in a statement to The Advocate, which first reported her hospitalization. "Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I'm currently having some maintenance on the old ticker. Trust me, I'd much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you."
The event may be rescheduled...

What could be bad about any project that puts '80s icons Rue McClanahan and Olivia Newton-John together in one scene? Based on the 1996 play and 2000 film of the same name, the half-hour show chronicles a "dysfunctional family" in Winters, Texas. And yes, there's the Logo-obligatory handsome young wannabe actor (newcomer Jason Dottley) who's struggling to come out to his Republican Baptist family. Look for Sordid Lives to premiere on Wednesday, July 23, at 10 pm/ET. Ileane Rudolph

Question: Who sang the theme song for The Golden Girls?
Answer: Cynthia Fee sang an abbreviated version of Andrew Gold's "Thank You for Being a Friend" for the show, which, as you know, ran on NBC from 1985-92 and starred Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty as four seniors living in Miami.
The song was a Top 25 hit from Gold's 1978 album, All This and Heaven Too. The singer-songwriter (a term popularized when you needed to do at least one to have a career in the music business) had a previous Top 5 hit with "Lonely Boy" in 1976 and, putting in time as a producer, studio musician and songwriter for others, has worked with such notable talent as Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff, James Taylor, Ringo Starr, Brian Wilson, Jackson Browne, Don Henley, Dia
