Giving today's young musicians a run for their money - British music legend David Bowie is amongst the nominess for this year's prestigious Mercury Music Prize. The 66-year old's new album ''The Next Day'' is one of 12 records in the running for the best British and Irish album of the year. Debut dance quartet Rudimental have also made the shortlist and say being up against Bowie is surreal.

A selection of Britain's hottest music talent gathered on Thursday January 10th for the announcement of the BRIT Award nominations. Alternative rock band Bastille led the field picking up four nominations. Matched only by electronic duo Disclosure. Drum and bass collective, Rudimental, who performed at the event and who will also be performing at the awards ceremony itself received three nods.
