Ron Darling Fast Facts:
  • Threw an NCAA-record 11 no-hit innings for Yale against St. John's (and future Mets teammate Frank Viola) in 1981, only to lose the game after allowing a hit and a run in the 12th inning.
  • Named to the 1985 National League All-Star Team.  
  • Graced the Aug. 25, 1986, cover of Sports Illustrated for a story on the stellar pitching rotation of a New York Mets team that would go on to win the World Series that season. 
  • Fielded his position well, winning a Gold Glove Award in 1989, the same year that he hit a home run in two consecutive starts.
  • Began broadcasting career with the Oakland A's before moving on to the Washington Nationals (2005) and New York Mets (2006), where he often works with former teammate Keith Hernandez. Won an Emmy Award as Best Sports Analyst in New York in 2006.
