Transformers Prime
Having written the first two Transformers movies, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were ready to take a break from the robots-in-disguise franchise. "We'd spent more time on Transformers than we even spent going to college, so we figured maybe it was time to take a break," Orci tells TV Guide Magazine. "But then (Hasbro chief executive) Brian Goldner came to us and asked if we wanted to do an animated series."
That new program, Transformers Prime, bowed last fall as a five-part miniseries, but now returns as a full-fledged series this Friday, Feb. 11, at 6:30/5:30c on The Hub, the new kids channel formed by Hasbro and Discovery Communications. The Hub ordered ...

Hawaii Five-0
When Fringe co-creators Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman announced that they were developing a Hawaii Five-0 reboot, fans of their previous work (Alias, Star Trek, Eagle Eye) undoubtedly let out a collective "Huh?" The twosome, best known for shows with intricate conspiracy theories, have now embarked on a journey of mystery-of-the-week — and say they-re loving it. TV Guide Magazine caught up with Orci at the HRTS Hitmakers Luncheon on December 8 to get the scoop on the mean streets of Honolulu and moving Fringe to Friday nights...

Grace Park, Daniel Dae Kim
Hawaii Five-0 fans can breathe easy. CBS' remake of the classic 1968 TV series features a surprisingly faithful interpretation of the original surf-rock theme song.
After originally bringing in a famous rock star to freshen the tune, the producers instead opted to bring back all the original musicians who recorded the song way back when. "It only affirmed for us that you cannot change it," executive producer Alex Kurtzman said at a Comic-Con panel Friday. "Not everything should be remake or rebooted. Sometimes...

Castle, Glee
Comic-Con has become the ultimate experience for TV fans. And more than 125,000 of them will descend upon the San Diego Convention Center from this Thursday through Sunday for screenings, star panels, autograph opportunities and specially designed collectibles. In the last few years, though, the featured TV shows have fallen into three distinct categories: the obvious "genre" programming like Fringe, Caprica, Supernatural, Futurama and The Vampire Diaries; the shows with tangential relationships to genre entertainment (see ABC's Castle panel, with former Firefly star Nathan Fillion, for instance); and finally, entries, like Glee, that make some hard-core fans think, "Why exactly is that show here?"
Joining that elite first group is AMC's The Walking Dead, a zombie drama based on the Image Comics title by Robert Kirkman, a veteran of the San Diego experience. "It seems like every time I go to Comic-Con, I discover a new VIP area," he says. "Like, 'Wait a minute, just behind this wall they're giving back rubs and everyone gets pink lemonade?'" ...

Blair Brown, Fringe by Patrick Harbon/Fox
Fringe executive producer Roberto Orci (he of Transformers fame) gave me the official word on some of your burning questions about Tuesday's premiere episode. His answers were at times enlightening, at times frustrating, and, frankly, mostly kind of weird, all apropos for a show that sprung from the odd, fertile mind of J.J. Abrams. Mickey O'ConnorWhat's up with those symbols (leaf, frog, etc.) that appear before commercial breaks? Are they some kind of puzzle that we're supposed to "figure out"?Well, not exactly. "They are all things that look natural, but have more to them; they've been altered," says Orci. For now, he advises only that you note the order in which they appear on the series. For the record, so far we've only seen the leaf, which was floating around inside the Massive Dynamic handprint scanner in the final scene. Why was Walter Bishop institutionalized in the first place? Sure, he's eccentric, but most of the time he seems perfectly lucid."He's certainly not c...
