J.J. Abrams will direct the sequel to his 2009 film Star Trek, Vulture reports.
Star Trek 2 will bring back Chris Pine as Capt. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will write the screenplay with Damon Lindelof producing. The film was slated for a June 2012 release, but will likely be pushed back.

Having written the first two Transformers movies, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were ready to take a break from the robots-in-disguise franchise. "We'd spent more time on Transformers than we even spent going to college, so we figured maybe it was time to take a break," Orci tells TV Guide Magazine. Fox has locked in a series adaptation of the comic book series Locke & Key, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The network has made a full series commitment to the project, which will be produced by DreamWorks TV and the team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Fringe, Star Trek, Hawaii Five-0). Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will serve as head writer.
