Synopsis: A young man wakes from a nightmare and finds a camera with footage of what appears to be his own death. (Suspense)
Actors/Models: Beau Ballinger, Maggie Vandehnberg, Amber Alexander, and Robert S. Wilson.
Music: 1) Joselito Sering, original score (dream sequence); and 2) Daniel Peterson, original thematic score.
This is a student short film I directed and produced in 2005-2006 which featured my own original music soundtrack along with collaborator Daniel Peterson. It was shot in San Francisco BART Montgomery and Civic Center station during ORANGE ALERT. We were stopped the first day by BART Police and SWAT showed up. We lied and said we applied for a permit and that the TV/Film Liaison department of BART said to 'go ahead' and shoot our 'tech rehearsal.'
On the second shoot day, we tricked the new SWAT guys into letting us shoot the rest of our 'tech rehearsal' and name dropped Officer Washington, their commander, so they did. They jumped off their seats when we told them there was a gun involved.
The SWAT guys were real accommodating and even offered to guard both ends of the hall to warn the public that it was a 'tech rehearsal' for a student film about what to do when you find suspicious bags lying around. PERFECT!
This was the second student film I made with actor Beau Ballinger after talking about writing a story that had no dialogue for the main actor and tell the story with his face. I brainstormed with my team about making an existential movie about the dichotomy between destiny and free will while making a dark suspense thriller.
Using the current scare associated with terrorism and bombs, we decided to develop the story around the plot of finding an unattended bag. We used the camera footage plot to twist the existential question and the footage worked as the device for suspense.
This film was praised in several international short film festivals and enjoyed a brief but strong run.
