After Cliff refuses to pay Norm for painting his apartment, Cliff plays a practical joke on Norm by dressing up an orangutan in painter's overalls. They don't speak to each other for a week, until Sam reminds them that they're very good buddies. All is forgiven, until Norm retaliates by having the orangutan come into Cheers dressed as a mailman. Woody causes great excitement in the bar when he tells the gang that he has met Robert Urich while working as an extra on 'Spenser: For Hire.' After seeing Woody's episode on TV, everyone's very skeptical of his story, since the only part of Woody that can be seen is his sleeve. When Robert Urich turns up at the bar, Woody is anxious to have everybody meet him, but they are all busy doing other things and can't be bothered with meeting Woody's 'phantom' star. Meanwhile, Rebecca has arranged for a ladies book club to use the poolroom on Sunday nights. The ladies in question are very genteel and well behaved, until they start spiking their tea and lemonade with liquor. Then Sam and Frasier find out just how rowdy they can be. watch

I've read all of Robert B. ...

Question: I've read all of Robert B. Parker's Spenser books and thought they did a decent job of depicting the character on TV's Spenser: For Hire, given the TV programming of the time. (Can you imagine that show on FX now?) But I never could figure out why they got rid of Susan, Spenser's girlfriend, and then brought her back. Can you shed any light on that?
