An American special agent embarks with amazing effort on a mission to recover vital material for the United States defence. It was believed that the mighty "unsinkable" ship contained vital material which could be used to make the United States impregnable to atomic attack. The ship is down too deep for divers, so the only solution is to raise it and the Herculean project must be managed in absolute secrecy - despite the extreme rigors of the climate, deadly interference from a rival nation, and the need to invent technology never before conceived. The extraordinary task is interlaced with the the stories of the people and the forces working against them.

But as his wife, Diane, and his children, Dana, Robbie and little Carol Anne, begin to unpack and settle in, strange things start happening. Almost playful at first, a mysterious force begins stacking chairs on the kitchen table, or making objects slide across the floor. But the ghostly antics soon turn terrifying as the house, or something in it, starts attacking the Freeling family, and Carol Anne is abducted by evil spirits still trapped on Earth, looking to use her innocence to get into the afterlife.

Schemers vigilantly attempt to raise the fated vessel Titanic from its murky grave when they suspect that there's a fortune in radioactive cargo aboard.
