Ridley Scott Fast Facts:

Graduated from the Royal College of Art with first class honors.
In the '60s, he began his career as a set designer — then later a director — for BBC-TV.
First feature film, 1977's The Duellists, was nominated for the Palme d'Or and unanimously won Best First Work at the Cannes Film Festival.
Founded Ridley Scott Associates (RSA), a UK-based commercial production company, for which he directed some 3,000 TV commercials, including the classic 1984-like ad for Apple Computers that aired during the 1984 Super Bowl.
Founded the production company Scott Free with his director brother Tony Scott.
Knighted in 2003.
