Richard P. Rogers (1944-2001) was a renowned producer and director of nonfiction films, and a gifted teacher and mentor who taught filmmaking and photography for many years at S.U.N.Y., Purchase, and at Harvard University, where he was director of the Film Study Center. His films range from political to experimental and self-reflective, and include the independent documentaries Living at Risk and Pictures from a Revolution, about Nicaragua; an award-winning portrait made for PBS of the poet William Carlos Williams; and a dramatic adaptation of Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's book A Midwife's Tale. In June 1975, Richard Rogers appeared on Screening Room to show and discuss National Anthem, Quarry, an excerpt from Moving Pictures: The Art of Jan Lenica and Elephants: Fragments in an Argument. watch

Buck (Gil Gerard) is sent to the gambling city Sinaloa with Directorate special agent Marla Landers (Guest star Juanin Clay) to rescue a young woman who has been kidnapped by the city's ruler, Velosi (guest star Richard Lynch). Velosi plans to extract some information from the woman's mind in order to destroy one of his competitors. The information involves plans for the Draconian Hatchet fighters, which have been plaguing Earth's defense forces.

Jack Powell (Charles "Buddy" Rogers) and David Armstrong (Richard Arlen) are rivals in the same small American town, both vying for the attentions of pretty Sylvia Lewis (Jobyna Ralston). Jack fails to realize that "the girl next door", Mary Preston (Clara Bow), is desperatly in love with him. The two young men both enlist to become combat pilots in the Air Service. When they leave for training camp, Jack mistakenly believes Sylvia prefers him; she is too kindhearted to disillusion him, but lets David know that she loves him. Jack and David are billeted together. Their tent mate is Cadet White (Gary Cooper), but their acquaintance is all too brief; White is killed in an air crash the same day. Undaunted, the two men endure a rigorous training period, where they go from being enemies to best friends. Upon graduating, they are shipped off to France to fight the Germans. Mary joins the war effort by becoming an ambulance driver. When she is in Paris, she learns that Jack is on leave there
