Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows and Other Casting News

Johnny Depp by Steve Granitz/WireImage.com

And here I thought I was the only one left who was obsessed with Dark Shadows. But no, apparently Johnny Depp is, too. According to Variety, the erstwhile Cap'n Jack grew up wishing he was the '60s soap's anti-hero, vampire Barnabas Collins — and still does. So now that he's a big movie star and not a starry-eyed kid, he's making it happen, developing a big-screen version of the daytime drama. Oh, please, please, please, can we get Angelina Jolie to play Angelique the Witch?! Those lips, those eyes! She's perfect! Elsewhere... Susan Sarandon has been cast as the slain heroine's grandmother in The Lovely Bones, based on Alice Sebold's best-seller. Stanley Tucci is considering playing her killer. Dude, Susan Sarandon's in the movie.... What's to think about? Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon are teaming up to coproduce and star in New Line's Four Christmases, about a couple who visit their four divorced parents all on the same holiday. Hollywood Duos: Good, Bad and Ugly

After a few days on vacation, away from the entertainment frenzy that envelopes me every day, I came back and quickly caught up on Hollywood's couple troubles, steady pairings and budding romances.Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams taking time apart? Madonna going off to Africa without Guy Ritchie in tow? Prince William single? What on earth is going on, people! OK, so we all know that our famous friends tend to hook up, move in, adopt dogs and have babies with each other faster than Simon Cowell can roll his eyes, but do the promising couples have to bite the dust, too? I, personally, am choosing to believe that the real-life Notebook lovers are totally and completely fine and a friend of a friend of a friend of a cousin just made it up to spoil all the fun.Other pairings that might be better off separate? Jessica Alba and Cash Warren are reportedly swimming in choppy waters, and Britney Spears fired her manager Larry Rudolph. Bravo, Brit! Now, prove us all wrong with a cute, short 'd... read more

Poll: Mel Is Still Beloved, Tom Cruise Still Bewilders

Further proof that people are just plain weird: In a new Gallup poll, only 12 percent of respondents said they would go out of their way to see Tom Cruise movies now, while 26 percent said they'd go the extra mile to catch a Mel Gibson flick. Furthermore, 34 percent said they wouldn't see a Cruise pic period, while only 15 percent have sworn off Gibson. Elsewhere on the chart, the far-less-controversial Tom Hanks and Reese Witherspoon were ranked our favorite actor and actress. No doubt my personal faves, Mark Feuerstein and Judy Greer, were right behind them. read more

Kidman Tops Priciest Actre$$ List, as Julia Snoozes

The Hollywood Reporter's fifth-annual accounting of the biz's best-paid actresses names Nicole Kidman this year's biggest breadwinner, earning as much as $17 million per film. This marks the first time that Julia Roberts, MIA from the live-action circuit this year, didn’t top the list. Legal Briefs: Reese vs Ryan, and a Baldwin Busted

Two weeks after announcing their separation, Reese Witherspoon has filed for divorce from husband Ryan Phillippe, citing — wait for it — "irreconcilable differences," seeking physical custody of their children, 7-year-old Ava and 3-year-old Deacon, and requesting exclusive use of the family residence. Reese also seems bearish on proferring any spousal support.... Daniel Baldwin (Homicide: Life on the Street) was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of stealing an SUV, and was booked for investigation of grand theft auto. This particular Baldwin's previous legal melees include crashing a rental car at 80 mph into two parked vehicles, as well as an investigation for cocaine possession. read more

Love Notes: Did "Dear Abbie" Ruin Ryan 'N' Reese?

Ryan Phillippe's coziness with his current leading lady, Stop Loss costar Abbie Cornish, may be what did in his marriage to Reese Witherspoon.
