  • After the Tears, Ramiele Malubay Reflects on Idol | The Great American Idol Blog | 4/4/2008
Got your own questions for when Ramiele drops by TVGuide.com? Share them in comments!Despite the tears Wednesday night following her elimination, Ramiele Malubay was her typical cheerful self the next day, offering perspective on her performances on Idol and the competition overall, as well as what the future may hold (and yes, Danny Noriega is in it). With solemnity, Malubay acknowledged the hard truth that "there is only one winner [of the show]," but she also sees her weeks on Idol as... read more
  • Episode Recap: The Top Eight Revealed! | American Idol | 4/3/2008
Hey guys, sorry I didn't announce myself as Idol blogger last night! It's me, Erin Fox, at your blogging service once again for the results show. Ryan promises an action-packed hour, and the Idols start right off with their group number, "9 to 5." Not to sound completely ancient, but this is such a toe-tapper, how could they mess it up? Oh wait, they're making them line dance in the background! That's how to ruin a great song. Boo. Am I just cranky tonight, or did they butcher this song? Now... read more
  • The Top 8: Who's Your Idol Now? | The Great American Idol Blog | 4/3/2008
The following contains spoiler information about Wednesday night's American Idol results show.No huge surprises this week. There may have been one or two others who could have been sent home, but there certainly is no arguing with America's latest decision. The Davids were of course safe, Carly's still more than solid, and you have to figure Jason can work the pretty eyes and charm for another round or two. So, after all was said and done tonight, as it boiled down to Kristy Lee, Brooke and... read more
  • Episode Recap: The Top 9 | American Idol | 4/2/2008
Tonight's mentor is Dolly Parton: Singer, songwriter and hit-producing country star. Her voice is as big as her... hair. You thought I was going somewhere else, didn't you? Hey now, this is a family show! They dive right in tonight, which makes me happy! After reading this recap, be sure to check out the news about David Cook rushing to the hospital after his performance. Scary!Brooke White, "Jolene": I think Brooke has a voice that can do almost any genre of music, and country is a very nice... read more
  • Episode Recap: The Top 9 Are Revealed! | American Idol | 3/27/2008
Hello everyone! As Erin noted last night, she is in L.A. covering the Paley Fest, which leaves me, Adam Bryant (Hello!) to recap tonight's episode of Idol. So let's get to it!Ryan quickly shared us with that the performances this week earned 30 million votes, the highest total so far this season. The high amount of votes is no doubt a reflection of the quality of last night's performances, which were, with a few exceptions, quite solid. But, of course, before we can get down to results, we have... read more
  • Episode Recap: The Top 10 Perform | American Idol | 3/26/2008
Good evening! It's Erin Fox again, and I wanted to let you know that Nina and her new son, Julian, are healthy and happy! Phew! Also, since I'm in L.A. covering one of the Paley Fest events, Adam Bryant will be blogging the results show tomorrow. Be kind! Let's begin with the intro of the judges — but I can't because I can't stop thinking, "WTH is Paula wearing?" Need I remind you of your age, woman? And the theme of tonight's song choices is so weird: The year they were born? That's just... read more
  • Top 10 Power Rankings: Are the Girls in Trouble? | The Great American Idol Blog | 3/24/2008
"The Long and Winding Road" led David Archuleta back to the No. 1 spot in TVGuide.com's American Idol Power Rankings this week, as the lad bounced back from his setback and reminded the audience of his pure pipes. Still in the running, though, is last week's chart-topper, David Cook, who is just five percentage points behind.Staying put in the No. 3 and 4 slots are Brooke White and Carly Smithson. The rest of the gals, meanwhile, are in a three-way tie for seventh place. Only Chikezie fared... read more
  • Episode Recap: The Top 10 Revealed! | American Idol | 3/20/2008
Hey guys! Erin Fox here again. First off, I still have no news about Nina and her baby... which means she's dealing with some seriously long labor! I thought for sure she'd have him last night, but alas, Baby Boy Hammerling-Smith is a stubborn little guy. Send lots of positive thoughts her way! Secondly, I know all about Chikezie-gate 2008. I swear he was not left out intentionally, it was just computer error… as in my computer kept crashing and I had to keep re-entering my recap (it was... read more
  • Episode Recap: The Top 11 Perform | American Idol | 3/19/2008
Big news, everyone! Nina is at the hospital this very moment giving birth to Baby Boy Hammerling-Smith! It seems fitting that she'd have her baby on an American Idol night. I'm Erin Fox, and I'll be filling in for the fabulous Nina until she returns from maternity leave.... I know how much you all love her, and I'll try my best to do her proud. The night starts with Ryan asking the judges about what they expect this week from the contestants. Paula actually has a cohesive opinion, without... read more
  • Episode Recap: The Top 12 Perform | American Idol | 3/12/2008
That was quite a night of ups and downs, including some pretty incredible performances and a few disasters (not to mention some unintentional comic relief courtesy of the judges). The two biggest stories of the night were the seeming self-destruction of hitherto nearly perfect David Archuleta (more on that in a bit) and the heightened crabbiness of Simon, who made disparaging comments not only about the singers but about several of the songs themselves (and these were Beatles songs, I mean,... read more
  • American Idol Power Rankings: The Top 12 | The Great American Idol Blog | 3/10/2008
Now it's getting a bit more interesting, and a lot more serious — American Idol's final 12. • Episode Recap: Top 8 Girls | American Idol | 3/6/2008
You'd think that tonight's show was all about the girls, but alas, no, the biggest divas of all were sitting behind the judges' table. That's right: Paula, Simon and Randy were the "stars" of tonight's episode, and not in a good way. I got utterly tired of Randy and Paula's self-congratulatory name-dropping ("Well, when I worked with..." "Oh yes, I choreographed...") and Simon's bitchy retorts — not to mention the way the three of them held court just for themselves. They seemingly spent... read more
  • Malubay Web Pics Spark First Season 7 Yawn-troversy | The Great American Idol Blog | 3/4/2008
Remember the Idols of seasons past? When compromising photos (allegedly) of Antonella Barba burned through the Web? When it was revealed that Paula was allegedly judging more than Corey Clark's singing? I miss those days, too. Call me jaded, but the first semi-scandalous contestant photo from Season 7 has hit the Internet and it's ... just not that racy. Celeb.tv posted this pic of Ramiele Malubay going for a frontal grab of one of her sushi resto colleagues. In addition, there was an alleged... read more
  • Episode Recap: Top 10 Girls | American Idol | 2/28/2008
Well, this was definitely a letdown from last night. I mean, there were a few really good performances by the girls tonight, but the vast majority were just so-so, just there in a way that didn't make them memorable. And I hate to be petty, but... my first impression when the girls filed by in the intro was, "Yikes, Amanda's hair, yikes!" Bride of Frankenstein's got nothin' on this gal. And why Ryan felt the need to talk about the fact that Randy wears a size 13 1/2 shoe... I cannot explain.... read more
  • And Then There Were 20: Who's Your Fave Now? | The Great American Idol Blog | 2/22/2008

  • Paula Abdul Names Her Top Picks of the Top 24 | The Great American Idol Blog | 2/21/2008
Tonight, four wannabe American Idols will be sent home, whittling the top 24 down to a more manageable 20. If a certain chipper judge has anything to say about it, a certain seven singers will be sacred cows, at least for now. "It would crush me, but there's no way it could happen, if David Archuleta or Jason Castro or Michael Johns [got eliminated]. But I just don't believe they could be knocked off," Paula Abdul tells TVGuide.com. Among the dozen ladies, Paula says, "I loved Amanda Overmyer's... read more
  • Idol Thoughts: Before the First Elimination | Roush Dispatch | 2/21/2008
What a weird first week for American Idol, and what a disaster to pick a theme (songs of the 1960s) for the contestants’ first nights in the spotlight. Why not let them stay in their individual comfort zones at least for the introductory week, the better for us to get to know them by letting them do their thing (whatever it may be) without a period straitjacket? Of course, the fact that more than a few were battling the flu didn't help matters. (You can find Nina's complete Idol recap... read more
  • Episode Recap: Top 12 Girls | American Idol | 2/21/2008
I have to say right off the bat that I, like several of the girls who sang tonight, have the flu. The judges didn't have much sympathy for them, but let me just say — I can barely write about them, and they were actually up there singing their hearts out? That's pretty darn amazing. Some of the performances really were impressive, even if they generally didn't blow me away. As Randy put it, "Season 7 is turning out to be the year of the young ones." I couldn't agree more; three of my faves... read more
