Bush, who with First Lady Laura applauded the "Idol Gives Back" donations to children in need, which to date total almost $70 million. "We thank [you] who have shown the good heart of America," said Dubya in the pre-taped bit. "We thank all the celebrities who participated, and all the contestants who sang their hearts out."
