Few actors are as adept at conveying downright intimidation as Powers Boothe, currently fearsome as acting president Noah Daniels as he steamrolls through the U.S.' latest bad day on Fox's 24 (Mondays at 9 pm/ET). TV Guide caught up with the Texas-born, gravel-voiced actor — who won an Emmy in 1980 for his TV portrayal of People's Temple leader Jim Jones — to discuss his 24 alter ego's intentions, as well as to bet on the fate of HBO's Deadwood and riverboat gambler Cy Tolliver.
TV Guide: Do you see 24's Daniels as essentially good but misguided? Powers Boothe: I don't think he's misguided at all. You had a nuke go off in [C

Topic One: Dancing with the Stars. One long grin, that show is. Id forgotten what a fun lark it can be, after the last few months of watching American Idol take itself way too seriously. Nothings really at stake on the Dancing show, except minor issues like dignity and rescuing B-list reputations from the celebrity coal bin. Early front-runners: Joey Fatone (especially if he keeps shedding the pounds as he dances) and Apolo Anton Ohno, the closest thing the show has to a hottie. (Possible miscalculation of keeping up his skating schedule when he should be perfecting his dance moves. He wasnt nearly as electrifying as he needs to be.) And because a female is overdue a win on this show, lets not count out Laila Ali, an interesting mix of athleticism, aggression and (when it matters) unexpected grace and charm.Charm really is the selling point of this ABC phenom. Even a klutz like Billy Ray Cyrus probably earned a few pity points for being a good sport. And I...

After weeks of beating up on 24, I felt I should weigh in briefly after this weeks above-par episode, if only to shower praise on someone who was so robbed last year at the Emmys, when the show and Kiefer Sutherland finally won their long-deserved trophies. Im talking, of course, about the ever-fabulous Jean Smart, as former first lady Martha Logan. (How could they have given the Emmy to Blythe Danner over Smartor, for that matter, over this years awards queen, Chandra Wilson? Arent the Emmys just sad?)Back to Martha. Now institutionalized in a cozy bungalow and under the watchful and affectionate care of Secret Service Agent Extraordinaire Aaron Pierce, Martha (as played so wittily by Smart) was somehow both ravaged and ravishing as she coolly regarded what remained of her ex-husband the disgraced ex-president.They may have telegraphed the kitchen knife a few too many times as Martha began melting down under the stress of the visit and the delayed phon...

This is the price of war Make no mistake that is what this is With President Palmer II down possibly for the count a new sheriff rode into 24-town this week and with him VP Noah Daniels brought a new attitude and a whole new set of rules Honestly Im not sure quite what to think of this change of power yet On the one hand things did seem to be heading to hell in a handbasket under President Wayne and Powers Boothes Daniels does feel like a far more commanding commander in chief On the other hand he just looks kind of you know evil if only because of his uncanny resemblance to one of Losts fake-bearded Others And that whole loss of personal freedoms thing is always a little scaryEither way Ive got a feeling Lennox will decide to take Daniels olive branch and help the VP get his plan through hes just too calculating to throw it all away for the benefit of Assads 147

Do not drink the White House Kool-Aid: Powers Boothe has been cast as Noah Daniels, vice president to commander in chief Wayne Palmer, on Fox's 24, which debuts Season 6 on Jan. 14.... Per the Hollywood Reporter and as spilled earlier this week by the assorted Ausiello columns, Kip Pardue is joining ER as a male nurse/new love interest for Linda Cardellini's Sam, while Mark Deklin (who has had a recurring gig on Justice) is joining Desperate Housewives as Bill Pearce, a handsome widower who gets cozy with soon-to-be children's-beauty-pageant consultant Gaby. (Wait 'til he sees what her talent is....)
