Inside the New Saturday Night Live

Live from New York, it's...NBC's hottest show? After nearly 40 years on the air and countless cast changes — including the losses of Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen and (soon) Seth Meyers in the last two seasons alone — Saturday Night Live routinely ranks as one of the Peacock Network's highest-rated series in the advertiser-coveted 18-to-49 age demographic (just below The Voice, The Blacklist and Chicago Fire). Following Jimmy's departure, the station staff is too despondent to work. Insisting that his absence is only temporary, Dave feels vindicated when Jimmy returns. However, after announcing that he's back just long enough to complete the sale of the station, Jimmy takes Dave aside to complain about being lonely and asks him to move to New Hampshire, too. After insisting that he can spare no one, Dave reconsiders and suggests that Jimmy take Matthew instead. While Matthew suspects some powerful reverse psychology is being employed to get him to accept the offer, Beth, Lisa and Joe all agree that he would never make it outside New York. However, when Jimmy suggests that they all come along, Dave must then keep everyone from defecting. Meanwhile, after Matthew accepts the offer, Lisa decides to follow Jimmy to New Hampshire for the upcoming presidential primary election. In the wake of Lisa's resignation, Dave learns that Beth and Max are going to New Hampshire, too. And though she's upset with the idea that he would let her go so easily, it's only after she's taken her revenge that Beth learns Dave really tried to keep her. With Max and Lisa gone, Dave turns the on air duties over to Joe. But when Joe is also persuaded to accept Jimmy's offer, Dave is left as WNYX's last employee. However, just when he thinks he's alone, Dave discovers that Matthew has decided to stay in New York after all. watch

NewsRadio The Complete Series — Review

Tune into NewsRadio for a hilarious look behind-the-scenes at WNYX, the #2 news radio station in New York City. Starring Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall), Stephen Root (Office Space), Andy Dick (Less Than Perfect), Maura Tierney (ER), Vicki Lewis (Three Sisters), Joe Rogan (Fear Factor), Khandi Alexander (ER), Phil Hartman (Saturday Night Live) and Jon Lovitz (Saturday Night Live), NewsRadio delivers tons of laughs in this 12-disc set featuring all 97 episodes of the series. Bonus material includes hilarious commentary tracks (some of the best I've ever heard), blooper reels, filmographies, featurettes, and more. The only downside is the packaging; the discs are on a plastic hub. but on the bright side it's only $59.95 (SRP) for the complete series. There's no reason to buy this if you already have the season sets, but it offers fans an opportunity to buy the entire series for a cheap price if you don't already have it in your collection.

How Saturday Night Live Hit a High in the '90s

Despite stumbling through much of the 1980s, NBC's Saturday Night Live returned to its place as a comedic touchstone in the 1990s. The ratings and critical response at the time didn't always show it, but in retrospect it's hard to argue with the results. Revisit the roster of talent that passed through the halls of 30 Rockefeller Plaza during the decade and names like Chris Rock, Tina Fey, David Spade, Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell immediately jump out at you. And from "Wayne's World" to a request for "more cowbell," numerous sketches from the time still resonate in the cult read more

Last night the dinner ...

Question: Last night the dinner discussion was Pee-wee's Playhouse and we were trying to recall who was who on the show. We remembered that Samuel L. Jackson was the cowboy, but was he also the King of Cartoons? Phil Hartman was the genie, but who made up the rest of the cast? Also, wasn't the show cancelled after Paul Reubens' arrest in Florida? It was a great show (except the cartoons were rather dumb, in our opinion). Thanks.

Answer: One can only hope your food was better than your memory, Laura, for your facts are just slightly off (though I commend you on your taste — the show was indeed great and I'm betting you folks make for an entertaining dining experience).

Since there were way too many characters and cast members for my fingers (and your eyes) to cover in this column, I'll just hit the most recognizable players. First off, you've fallen victim to the same phenomenon that, according to re read more
