After leaving the Army after W.W.II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Davis plays matchmaker and introduces Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters (Betty and Judy) who also have a song-and-dance act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, is the lodge owner. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue as the performers try to help the General.

"The Fires of Pompeii"

"But that's what you do. You're the Doctor, you save people."—Donna NobleFor her first real trip in the TARDIS, the Doctor takes Donna to visit ancient Rome. To their surprise, it's not Rome proper but Pompeii, right before the eruption. They also discover that the TARDIS has been sold as a piece of "modern art" to Caecilius. His daughter, Evelina, is preparing to join the the mystical Sybilline Sisterhood who seem to have the power of future sight. As is always the case, there is a prophecy about a "blue box" coming at a time of destruction. The Doctor and Donna squabble about whether to warn the citizens of Pompeii about their impending doom. They make their way to Caecilius's home, where the TARDIS is on display.
