This delightful screwball comedy follows American schoolteacher Jean Harper (Evelyn Keyes) as she wearies of the bus tour she is taking in Mexico. Upon meeting attorney Jimmy Donovan (Dennis O'Keefe), Jean abandons the bus to follow him, which causes nothing but trouble for Jimmy. As they travel to Acapulco, the couple fall in love and are adopted by a young Mexican boy, but their journey is complicated when Jimmy is accused of kidnapping Jean.

Frontier dictator Kruger runs his mine like a prison colony; indeed, most of the workers are fugitives, given dubious "protection" by Kruger. Judith Burns and Bob Peters, two laborers both on the run from the law seek to prove Kruger is a murderer.
