The film opens in a California forest as a group of alien botanists collect vegetation samples. U.S. government agents appear and the aliens flee in their spaceship, leaving one of their own behind in their haste. The scene shifts to a suburban California home, where a boy named Elliott plays servant to his older brother, Michael, and his friends. As he fetches pizza, Elliott discovers the stranded alien, who promptly flees. Despite his family's disbelief, Elliott leaves Reese's Pieces candy in the forest to lure it into his bedroom. Before he goes to bed, Elliott notices the alien imitating his movements.

May 6, 2007: Grapes of Wrath

The wine tasting at Tommy and Holly’s new vineyard put Tommy at the center of tonight’s episode. The "center" of course being a place Tommy isn’t normally accustomed to being. He handled everything well, and he definitely came across as the voice of reason among the extended Walker family. Not that that was hard to do, what with the Walker siblings missing the point of the wine tasting and doing a fair amount of wine drinking. But Tommy’s toast was a nice tribute to his dad, managing to be both honest about his father's flaws and respectful of all he taught them. Unfortunately the episode didn’t end on a good note for Tommy. Hopefully the twins will be OK.Holly, on the other hand, didn’t exactly play the gracious host to the Walker family. In the beginning of the episode I actually felt sort of bad for her, which is unusual because Holly’s generally not the sort of character who generates a lot of sympathy. I don’t think Nora was really under ... read more

Brothers' Mother Is Hot for Teacher

Curious where Brothers & Sisters' Nora's reborn interest in writing and art is going? (C'mon, be nice. At least, I dunno, seven of you are.) Would you believe... the boudoir? Later this season, Peter Coyote (Erin Brockovich, E.T.) will appear on several episodes of ABC's hit freshman serial as Mark August, a professor and potential romantic interest for the widow Walker. I foresee fisticuffs with Dr. Andy Brown. read more

The 4400: Who's Out, In and Returning!

Buckle up, fans of USA Network's The 4400, because the twists and turns are about to come at you a good 4,400 miles per hour. The two-hour Season 3 premiere (Sunday at 9 pm/ET) alone uncorks some shockers that promise to change the pace and direction of the show forever, as well as to bid farewell to a familiar face or two. All of which raises the question: Will this be the wildest 4400 season yet?

"We certainly hope so," executive producer Maira Suro tells TVGuide.com, pointing out that that is precisely the message being communicated by the show's massive ad campaign. "Creatively, we're still putting out the best show we know how to do, but we hope to get a lot of new viewers. At the same time, we've got great surprises and more of the exciting pace that has made us the show that we are."

Indeed, serial shockers read more

Commander in Chief Because apparently...

Commander in ChiefBecause apparently nothing ever goes smoothly for Mackenzie Allen, this week the ruler of the free world has to contend with a tell-all book filled to the brim with juicy, might-topple-the-Administration secrets. Uh-oh, kids, looks like we've got us a mole in the White House. (I guess it's hoping for too much to wish Tobias Fünke would attack a mini-replica of Washington dressed up in a big mole suit here, huh? That'll teach me to watch a TiVo'd Arrested Development right before I tune in to LadyPrez & Co. Seriously, though, I'll bet Bob Loblaw could help take care of this little snitch problem tout de suite.)  Meanwhile, Mac's choice for VP finally gets his day before Congress in a potentially disastrous confirmation hearing. All this verbal sparr read more

Some thoughts from a typically...

Some thoughts from a typically busy summer Sunday of TV:

Six Feet Under
Truer words were never spoken than Ruth Fisher's weary, teary whine to her steadfast companion in the finale of Six Feet Under Sunday night: "This is Hell, George. Hell. I just want it to end."

So, my dear, did I. And thankfully, at last, Six Feet Under — an occasionally brilliant, nearly always maddening and, lately, just plain miserable series about living in the shadow of death — is behind us. In a nice twist, the show's final scenes actually seemed to embrace the possibilities of life — before the climactic montage of all the major characters meeting their eventual makers as Claire, bless her heart, drove off into the future. I couldn't imagine the show ending any other way than in a series of obituary cards, and I was amused that so many of the characters (especially Brenda) passed away looking as if they read more
