When Rebecca returns from a miserable vacation cruise, she stumbles upon Don, the plumber, who is repairing the broken beer taps at the bar. Smitten with Rebecca, he asks her out, but she is reluctant to go out with a lowly plumber, regardless of his good looks. However, Frasier convinces Rebecca to give Don a chance, and surprisingly, she soon finds herself failing in love with him. Meanwhile, Sam comes to the painful realization that he is a 'sex addict.' Both Rebecca and Carla refuse his hypothetical proposal of marriage based on their knowledge of his sordid past. Carla sees red when Eddie teams up with a sexy skater who seems to have more than figure-eights on her mind. After being apart from her husband for several months, Carla eagerly awaits Eddie's return from his latest road trip with the ice show. But her excitement quickly turns to anxiety when Eddie bursts into Cheers announcing that his newest skating partner is Franzi Schrempf, the very sexy, very single East German skater. Carla's suspicions are further piqued when Franzi ignores every man in the bar except Eddie. Before long, Carla is convinced that Eddie is straying when she notices little changes in his behavior that, in her mind, add up to one big clandestine affair. Although she momentarily considers homicide as an option, Carla chooses instead to become 'the perfect little wife,' even suggesting Eddie hold a poker party at their house. However, midway through the poker game, Sam arrives and admits that, much to his dismay, he just ran into Franzi's boyfriend in her dressing room at the ice show. Furious at being wrong, Carla calls off the card game and throws the guys out. Running up a tab of nearly nine hundred dollars, Norm is unceremoniously told he can no longer 'charge' his beers. However, Rebecca decides he can work off the tab by painting her office. While working together, Norm discovers she's really a nice person. When Sam finds out that Norm's been asked to help paint parts of her home, he insists on going along in the hopes that Rebecca will warm up to him, too. When Norm is called away for a family crisis, Sam and Rebecca are left alone. He misinterprets a comment she makes about changing clothes as a possible invitation, and is surprised when she returns in her running attire. Frasier's good friend, Dr. Simon Finch-Royce, a noted marriage counselor, is in town and stops by Cheers for a drink. Diane, well aware of his tremendous reputation, asks if he may have time for a brief session with her and Sam. After agreeing to the session, the two lovebirds are shocked when he proclaims that they are most unsuitable for marriage, and feels that he's saved them years of suffering. Refusing to accept his judgment, Diane drags Sam to Dr. Finch-Royce's hotel room time after time in an attempt to have him reverse his diagnosis. After suffering numerous disturbances, he finally concedes that not only will they be happily married, but will in fact be the most perfectly suited couple of all time.
