NCIS Boss on Double-Death Twist: What's Next for Ziva and Vance?

When NCIS goes for an emotional gut-punch, it always hits hard.

In last week's episode, the veteran CBS drama walloped its audience with not one, but two deaths, as a shooting spree at the home of Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) took the lives of both Ziva's father Eli (Michael Nouri) and Vance's wife Jackie (Paula Newsome).

Winter TV: Get the scoop on your favorite returning shows

"I just couldn't help myself," executive producer Gary Glasberg tells TVGuide.com of the body count. "This is a story line that we've actually been thinking about for a long time — all the way back to last spring. We talked about the doors it would open for his character and things that this character would have to face as a single dad and as a widower. It all seemed exciting. It was new material and a new direction for Vance."

NCIS Dips into Murder Club to Find Vance's Wife

NCIS is expanding Director Vance's family tree, and in fact had Murder on its mind when casting Leon's missus.

Paula Newsome, who last starred on ABC's Women's Murder Club, will guest-star as Jackie Vance on the CBS drama's March 17 episode. Khamani Griffin (All of Us) and China Anne McClain (House of Payne), both age 10, appear in the same episode as Leon's kids. Leon himself, of course, is played by TVGuide.com celebrity blogger Rocky Carroll.

What brings on this exploration into Vance's thus far secretive world? According to ... read more

Murder Joins a Crowded Friday Club

My loyalties are so divided on Friday nights. I want ABC’s so-so new crime drama Women’s Murder Club to do well enough to bring some much-needed eyeballs to the charming romantic comedy Men in Trees, which finally returns from a cruel nearly eight-month hiatus. With James Patterson’s name as a selling point for Murder Club (though he’s not writing this series any more than he appears to be penning half of the books that go out with co-writers’ names on his ubiquitous book jackets), the show certainly has a shot at commercial success, even on a night that’s widely considered a graveyard. Remember: This same night, and this same time period (9 pm/ET), is where the original CSI launched to even less fanfare, and the rest is TV history. But I also don’t want anything to take audience away from Murder Club’s competition, most notably NBC’s ever-fragile Friday Night Lights, which offers another superb episode this week. Even if like many observe... read more
